As someone who recently became an 'almost full-time' dealer after twenty years of dabbling, these episodes are fun to watch and invaluable as an education. Thank you both and please keep 'em coming!

4 am US time, looking for the new puppy who's tucked himself away somewhere and you have this lovely post. Furniture was my mom's thing but even I thought 2 grand for table. Look forward to the next one.

I wonder how many people have walked by that table over the years while it was in storage and never gave it a second look. It's lucky it didn't end up on the bonfire. Knowledge is the key to making money in this game for sure.

You’re right and in this case it had been overlooked for generations!

Love the Irish wood table-it is so honest. I am surprised and delighted by its high value! Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for similar pieces, to keep for myself!

Gotta love a barn find. Irish 18th century? Marble table tops go smash early and often. I thought 1000-1200 before hearing the estimate and without a wax, but Irish furniture goes bonkers ... as it did. That blue vase? I thought top end of the estimate, but the punters went to 950. The clock? That name will drive it on a bit. I'd be thinking 2500, and someone went 3000 so I'm out too. I'd also guess it went to Russia; between the green, the gold, and the name my hunch is it went there.

You might be right. I know Elstob’s send pieces all over the world and it looks very much a Russian market item

Great video David. Unfortunately I did not manage to 'beat the expert' but I gave it a go. However, recently I found 2 vintage Walls Ice Cream Bins/boxes made of Aluminium and I think they are possibly early 20th Century. They are very dirty as they had however many years worth of grit and water in them but could be worth something. I wanted to get an expert opinion on what to do with them and what to possibly sell them for. WOuld love to get an answer to see what to do next but anyway keep up the good work David and I can't wait for Series 24 of Antiques Road Trip.

"Atmos is the brand name of a mechanical torsion pendulum clock manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre in Switzerland which does not need to be wound manually. It gets the energy it needs to run from temperature and atmospheric pressure changes in the environment, and can run for years without human intervention." Taken from en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmos_clock

Atmos clock is the first time I knew what it was before y'all were talking about it. Big misses there since it's an insane piece of technology and I knew that price was a serious underestimate. Huge problem with them is that they are ridiculously fragile, which is really problematic with things like cleaning services that might touch them around your house.

I opted for £3200, £950 and £3400 😊

Atmos clocks work by minute variations in temperature.

WHY NO DISCUSSION OF THE TWO BOARDS ADDED AT EACH END? FROM WHAT I COULD SEE ,IT LOOKS LIKE EACH END WAS CUT TO SHRINK THE DEPTH. THAT HURTS,YOU KNOW.

I don't get the price of the ratty, ordinary looking table. Outside of the rarity and early version of Mahogany wood, it had no top, it was not interestingly carved or decorated, and had no provenance. On the other shows, we are always told that brown furniture has such low value in today's market. Perhaps it is more about the clientele that David Elstob's team has built over the years. I just don't understand the valuation and price paid.

It’s all about rarity Bill. Irish furniture always carry’s a premium and the details on that table are just wonderful
