How to sell digital products with Webflow Ecommerce

Digital downloads give you the flexibility to sell more than physical goods. Add file links to any product in your Webflow Ecommerce store - digital goods are automatically delivered to customers at checkout. Should this be classified as a web design superpower? Maybe.
In this lesson Grímur, plays not one but two different roles as he not only adds a digital product to his Webflow Ecommerce store, but shows up again in a different shirt to buy that digital product.

I love Webflow and as a designer myself, I use it. But these downloads need to be gated - there's no security. I can just share the link and that's it - everybody has access.

Exciting to see updates, but it doesn’t look like any of the downloaded content is gated. All it takes is one person to purchase for that link to become shareable with anyone. Without being able to host files directly on your servers via a CDN, digital purchases are essentially useless. Am I understanding correctly Webflow?

Yeah, that is a serious flaw in the way webflow handles e-commmerce outside of shipping stuff. I'm beyond grateful that they have this stuff to offer, but this is a platform for freelancers, by freelancers, and having to tell clients that they can't secure their digital content can be a deal breaker. What would fix this is if the link was to a download PAGE that could only be accessed after paying, and the site kept track of who did what, but that blows out the CMS really fast.

Very simple. Make a text file and in it ask for the buyer to send their order# to contact email and the owner will send them an email back sending them the file and they’ll leave a licensed link in the file also stating that sharing this file is an offence blah bla bla. And if they get caught they can go to jail or wtv it’s very easy to scare ppl into that sorta thing

Correction. The text file that I mentioned will be the download file.. so even if anyone gets access to that file. They can’t do anything with it. Because they need a order number and the person who owns the website will see if they gave them a fake order # or not.

@@9to5high That defeats the whole purpose of buying a downloadable resource. I want immediate access to it, I don't want to go through this complicated process.

@@9to5high Yeah, that's a work around alright, and I know there's no way to 100% protect data, but anti-piracy measures seem to just encourage more piracy. If the website could keep track of who did what it would be able to fit any e-commerce or LMS (like thinkific or skillshare) situation, which in today's world is in high demand. These solutions do exist but they are still not quite to the point where they are fully automated and secure at the same time (or they are but the cost is higher), which is oftentimes a one-way ticket to losing business and credibility.

Protecting download links should be an integral part of any digital download platform either by generating random one-time links, or at the very least by having the ability to automatically expire download links after (say) X hours/days or Y clicks - or a combination of both.

Pleeeasse make it possible to not include the billing address for digital products. If you remove or hide it, the checkout doesn’t work but this makes it unnecessarily long and a lot of people drop off. Or at least make it possible to make it a multi-step check out. Otherwise, I am switching to WordPress.

Pricing is what you call a trade off. If you are good at something, why do it for free? And the pricing is not that much, if you are making a website it should generate enough revenue to pay the small free it cost
