A quick how to on sending and receiving a text message and call alert using a Motorola XPR5550 and XPR7550 MotoTRBO series radio. TMS, text message, it's the same thing. The process is quite similar to the ASTRO25 series of radios.
One of the neat things about the TRBO series is the ability to set predefined messages in CPS. This is a really handy feature, especially if your radio doesn't have a keypad to free-text a message. Simply select one from the list that was pushed to the radio when you programmed it.
On the sending radio, you can go about it one of two ways: send using the messages menu, or contacts.
Send a Message Using the Contacts Menu:
From the contacts menu, select the contact you want to send the message to (this can also be a group call, not just an individual call).
From there, scroll down and select Send Message, and compose it if you can free-text your message. If not, you will need to use the Messages menu option.
Once you have your message typed out, hit the OK button to send the message!
Send a Message Using the Messages Menu
Just like before, enter the radio's menu, scroll down to Messages and enter it
You get two options: Compose (free text) or Quick Text (predefined messages set in CPS). Select the option for you
If selecting Compose, just like before, use the keypad to type out your message, and hit that OK button to send it.
If selecting Quick Text, enter it, and select the message you want to send from the list. Hit OK
It will then pop open the contacts list, select the contact you want to send it to, and hit OK to send
In either case, if the message sending was successful, you will get that happy green checkmark, otherwise, the red X of doom.
Call alerts work in basically the same exact way. . To send a call alert to a group or individual, enter the menu and select Contacts. From the list, select the contact you wanna call alert, and hit the OK button to send it. Just like above, green checkmark means the alert was sent, the red X means it didn't go so well.
Keep in mind, the green checkmark doesn't mean it was received! It was just sent without an issue.
