How to Send EMAIL and SMS Text with APRS

In this video I show you the basics on using APRS to send email as well as SMS or Phone text.
I use a phone app called APRSDroid which you can download here: aprsdroid.org/
You can use any APRS enabled radio to preform this operation, but you must be within range of an igate to get out from RF to email servers and Cell Towers.
To send an email, format your message by sending a message to Callsign : "EMAIL-2"
with the body formatted as "email here" "Body here"
To send a text message or SMS, format your message by sending a message to Callsign "SMSGTE"
with the body formatted as @"9digit phone number here" "message here"

Hi, thanks for the video. I just discovered that by changing the SSID to-2 you can edit the CS to EMAIL in your FTM-100 or FT3DR and use the mail gateway from your Yaesu. Keep the good job.

Unfortunately, my country (Argentina) is not supported for SMS text vía APRS, but yes for email. Good tutorial, simple and understandable.

@Modernham hey, I just tried this in Canada and neither the SMS or email has gone through. Is it possible that the callsigns are different in Canada? EDIT: Forget about it. I didn't realize I needed to start tracking for the messages to send

Email doesn't work on the YAESU FT5D, because I can't add a "-" to the callsign, it only allows letters and numbers. Any suggestions?

I have an ft3d and I just sent "email" in callsign, no "-2" and it went through with no issue. Hopefully this can help, if you haven't found this solution sooner. 73
