@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! That would be either because, for example, the registration marks are registration color, and it will print on all 4 films, or the black is a rich black, which will print down all colors making it the deepest black possible. I hope this makes since.

@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 thanks for the answer. I was referring to your name in the print. It's black lettering and half tones. I'm totally new and trying to learn the processes. I think what you're saying is by printing all the colors below your black will make it a richer color?

@@craigmac4025 You got it! If you print just black, for black text, or any image at that, it will come out about 85 grey, or black. If you print all four colors, it will be a deep black, or what is called Rich Black in the print industry. It's used in process printing on all mediums.

Hi Matt ! Another great and very well explained video! Thanks! I have a general question about printing colors. There are 2 ways to print halftones colors : CMYK process or simulated process. What is the benefit of printing with CMYK process instead of simulated process (or inversement)? In other words, if I want to print a very detailed color picture, how can I know if I have to do it with CMYK process or simulated process? Which gives the best result compared to the original image? Thanks a lot !
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Thank you!!! Generally, you want to do CMYK on whites, and spot process on dark shirts. Most CMYK inks don't do well on top of an underbase. There is a waterbased CMYK ink that works well on a base. I believe it's called Viral Inks? I'll have to look it up, but for plastisol, whites CMYK, and dark spot process. You can get away with printing CMYK on top of white plastisol ink, but you will need to flash between all colors, or at least every other color to keep the image from losing detail.
@risotoo45646 жыл бұрын
Thank you ! Ok so if you have to print an image on a white shirt, you could do it with CMYK or spot process. Imagine that you try both methods, side by side, what result do you think would be closest to the original image? I don't know Viral inks but maybe you meant Virus Inks. If so, yes these water based inks are really very good for printing on shirts ! Thx again for your answer ;)
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
That's it, Virus Inks. It all depends on the job. You'll get more consistent results with spot process, even on whites. Just depends on how many colors your press has, but the rule of thumb is CMYK for whites. With spot process on whites, you can overprint colors wet on wet to create new colors. Like yellow and red will make orange...
@risotoo45646 жыл бұрын
Thank you again ! I have a 6 colors press so I can do both methods. But I will remember : CMYK only on white shirt !
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын

Question is, I got Ulano TZ per your video and I can barely see what Im washing out on the screen after exposing it. Its all pale yellow/green. Grrrr. So as a result, I cant tell if Im even getting everything rinsed out. Im thinking I mixed it wrong, or underexposed. Am I not exposing long enough? I have unfiltered UV fluorescents (diy build) and I burned it at 5 minutes...(regular Ulano orange takes like 2 minutes.) Ball park how long is your exposure for Ulano TZ? THANK YOU for any info. -paul
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul. Any time! Thanks for checking them out. Do you have a backlight when washing out screens? It'll help a lot to make sure you got all the halftones washed out. You should even be able to see the unexposed halftones and what's been washed out and what hasn't. I expose mine for 3:30, but my Ulano orange for 1:15 - 1:30. Are you films really dense? As long as the emulsion is hardening, I don't think you have mixed it wrong. Let me know and I'll do what I can to help over the net.
@cre8tivedm6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply--sorry to not get back to you sooner. Actually, no, its an overhead yellow light (never been a problem before but theis plae emulsion makes it tough!) Ill see if I can install a backlight.I believe the black on the film was dense--hard to see with a halftone dot. Not many large solids anywhere. I might just try something easier next time. Also, I was attempting it without a vacuum frame on the exposure unit.....Im assuming that could very well be part of the problem. Thanks!
@mikeydesignssilkscreen4736 жыл бұрын
No worries! We all keep busy. Maybe try print a solid square or circle and holding it up to the light to see where you are at. Starting out, I used a 500w working light, and it worked well. I did use a piece of glass to sandwich the film to the emulsion and a few weights I placed on top of the glass as well. Was a thick piece of glass. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Takes some trial and error.
