How to Service a Ford Focus 1.6 mk3 with Ticking Engine!

In todays video I'm going to show you how I serviced a Ford Focus 1.6 mk3 Petrol 2011 I changed the oil with Castrol 5w30 and a bosh oil filter and changed the air filter and the rather nasty cabin filter it also had a little ticking sound due to the valve lifters so I added a supplement to try and minimise the noise.

I thought they all just sounded like that! Worth noting is these engines should have the oil level at the top notch on the dipstick for the VVT to work at its best.

That cabin filter was horrendous, the one I changed on my 2004 Rover 25 wasn't even that bad and that had never been changed, judging by the manufacturing date on it. Great service vid. I'm thinking of getting a 1.6, but I've been put off by the horror stories of the wet cam belts deteriorating. I've been a bit put off by the 1.6 Ecoboost (Ecoboom) engine

Yeah it was really bad definitely had not been changed it a while and yeah I would stay clear of them there really unreliable engines I’ve had a couple and thankfully they have been fine but I wouldn’t chance it

My 09 Focus 1.6l petrol is quite noisy when it's cold, but it's near enough silent when it's warmed up.

I put the Wynn's super charge oil additive in with oil change . It makes a difference. Runs smoother

These cars don't have a fuel filter they are designed with a lifetime one in the fuel pump unfortunately

That's normal sound for this engine. Got one since brand new and sounds quite similar.

I added Wynn's complete fuel system cleaner (Black version not purple one) into gasoline tank and after 100km of highway drive this engine noise like it's disel engine and not gasoline is not present any more. I guess that after some time it will came back but I guess that additive did something.

This engine has a quite noisy design and those noises are caused by piston slapping and rod to piston pin connection excessive wear. Any additive will not solve that. Changing the oil more frequently might slow down the process.

@@restoringsalvage It will run many thousands of miles without any problem. It is just noisy and annoying. But it is just a cheap car.

The valve lifters are not hydraulic in that engine. They are fixed shims. They are a noisy engine from new.

Why is the oil filter in such a horrible position? oil just goes everywhere...doesn't this make the car smoke when you start it back up?

This guy has no idea how to service a car NEVER remove a MAF sensor to install an air filter NEVER tighten an oil filter with an oil filter REMOVAL tool oil filters are tightened to HAND tight only NEVER drain an engine of oil with the filler cap on still NEVER fill the engine with oil with the dip stick in still and definitely NEVER fill the engine with oil while still on axle stands this gives an inaccurate reading on the dip stick I suggest you let a professional service your car next time
