@@SmokinMonkeyOG May i ask why you use two different lubricants, Eze-slide and the copper stuff on the sliding pins? Thanks very much!
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 8 ай бұрын
@GB-fo2ce copper stuff is just an anti seize so it does lubricate but it’s not really meant for that and it will dry up and wear away if used as a lubricant. The other one is high heat resistant and can last longer. The anti seize is to keep things from sticking and let the pads move around freely on the sliding surface

Thanks bro, real helpful. Saves me an extra trip to the shop for which they'll probably charge me an extra € 100. My SV is currently at 8300 km's, is it time to do the breaks already you think?
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 4 жыл бұрын
You should look at the pads the line that they cut into them in the middle is the wear indicator. Once it’s no longer there and the pad is one big smooth surface it’s time to get them changed.
4 жыл бұрын
@@SmokinMonkeyOG thanks, but I meant is it time to lube and clean it already after 8k km you think?
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 4 жыл бұрын
I had less than that and it was dirty enough on mine but it depends what your roads are like. More dust and debris will mean more cleaning. But at 8k I would look at them at least and see if they look gunned up. Check the pins without removing anything. You can see if they’re dirty or not

Do you by any chance know if the 2016-2020 brake pads are universally compatible with my 2020 sv650x? I heard they've updated to four piston calipers, I'm too reluctant to let a shop do it for me, but I can't seem to get my hands on a 2020 brake pad

I wish I could help but I have t seen a 2020 in person yet so I don’t even know if they have the same pads or anything. I’ll see if I can look it up but nothing off the top of my head man sorry.

does opening the brake reservoir cover make it easier to push the piston back?
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure but I would assume it doesn’t since there’s enough room for the fluid to go back and forth and not have it pressurize. You would only have more resistance if it was under pressure but it’s not.

Currently riding my second season with my first bike, (2011 CBR 250R- Same as your first bike if im not mistaken). I really want an SV 650 as my second bike next spring. (The one with the red frame is so beautiful) But MAN That Honda CB650R is hard not to consider. Im curious, im 6'2, how do you think il fit on the SV? I mean im riding a 250 and its decent enough but how much of a difference comfort wise did you notice jumping from the CBR 250 R to this bike? Any regrets? If you were in my position knowing what you know now, would you buy the SV again? or go a different route? I live in pickering so riding conditions should be very similar to what you ride in. Cheers
@SmokinMonkeyOG
@SmokinMonkeyOG 4 жыл бұрын
Ya man I had one of those too!! Haha dope bike. But I gotta be honest I wanted the CB650R too lol so knowing what I know now I would get the CB650R but only because I love the 4 cylinder sound and that bike actually has more power. Still I don’t regret my decision I love the SV and it’s handling plus it’s got tons of power too. But comfort wise it’s night and day. The SV650 is sooo nice man lol it’s like a Muskoka chair on wheels because you sit straight not leaned over. I can’t get enough of this bike. I don’t know how the riding position is in the Honda but I can ride this all day. And that’s why I got it, it lets me take longer rides and not strain my back I’m 6’1

I would say that’s too low. The stuff I use is Temperature range: -46°C to 288°C (-50°F to 550°F). I would pick up a tube of brake specific lubricant it’s only like $10-$15 and will do the job a lot better

Don't use a metal brush on or around the pistons. A nylon brush and some brake cleaner should do the trick for all of it.

Better always use gloves when doing a brake job, the brake pad dust is highly cancerigenous and also the brake cleaner is really hard on your skin

Everything is Carcinogenic these days lol there’s carcinogens in everything man. Just wash your hands right after and don’t eat while doing the brake job you’ll be fine. When dealing with oil wear gloves for sure because the liquid will absorb into your skin otherwise you’ll be okay
