I love these videos, always nice to "SEE" it done, as opposed to "reading it in a manual.

Love seeing you come back for the next generation, man. I completely replace all the brake lines and fittings on my 86 K10, using my wife at the brake pedal. Swore she'd never help out again after that lol. SO hard to push a pedal for an hour straight, right?

I do rebuild transmission, mainly GM ones, what I can tell you what I see is the main cause of failure is lack of servicing. The video shows the home style of doing it, but I highly recommend taking it to a transmission shop. They should have the equipment that hooks up to your transmission cooler and replaces fluid as it is pumped in. This ensures a 98% of the fluid is replaced and flushes out the system 100%. Of course they are supposed to check any adjustable items. Do this every 60k and you shouldn't have issues under normal driving conditions. If you are heavy footed and/or tow a lot of heavy stuff you may want to do it sooner. Problem is most newer vehicles either you CAN'T service easily or manual never indicates when to change it. I recommend a transmission shop that mainly or only does driveline work, otherwise you will probably get a mechanic who can service the trans, but really doesn't know about the inner workings. Very much the same as the oil change places that employees people at minimum wages and prefer non-mechanics because of job satisfaction. I applied at a Valvoline as a second job and was denied as over qualified and they didn't want to waste any ones time. That said I worked at a Ford dealer in CA and I got to do all the driveline work but at the time was scared of transmissions and didn't know much, even to adjust bands, much less a shift kit, etc. More of an expert on suspension, axels, brakes, transfer cases and engine diagnosis (the guy you use to pay $100 to check your codes)

I really like these videos. Also, will you be working with Vice Grip Garage on anything?

Left the old fluid in the torque converter??
@ronb1057

I was thinking the same thing. Too bad GM doesn't put a drain plug on their Torque Convertors like Mercedes Benz. The irony is that the Mercedes Benz transmissions were from the GM rejected design (typically in models from the 70's to the late 90's) and were very reliable, serviceable and durable.

I typically repaint the diff cover when I service it, especially if it's all rusty like that.

They have, this case like Brothers Truck videos, he is trying to show you can do it at home. LMC has a huge shop with many lifts.

an old timer told me to never change my transmission fluid if it has never been changed before because it would mess up my transmission. low and behold I change my transmission fluid around 150k and my transmission started to go out after a few weeks

GM removed all licensing from DexIII ,and has ben supeceded by DexVI as the only fluid recommended by GM for use in alll it's transmissions.

I was disappointed to see Kevin laying out the pan gasket and filter on the concrete floor. He should be doing all that on a clean table to minimize the risk of any dust or debris getting in the pan. Any good mechanic worth his salt will tell you that fine dust and debris are the number one killer of the internal workings of a transmission or engine. Hygiene is crucial when it comes to doing this kind of work. We are not replacing shocks and springs here. Come on man! Also, very important to get the old transmission fluid out of the Torque Convertor if the fluid looks as dirty as the one Kevin was dealing with. Ideally, the fluid needs to look no more than a slightly darker cherry red if one is going to try and get away with what Kevin did with the somewhat dark brown fluid.

Why the F did you not just put the bolts in the right way? Then you don't need the "dab" to hold the gasket in place ;)
@paintucation
@paintucation 2 жыл бұрын
Educate me! on the diff,The bolts are all the same, I used a criss-cross pattern like I was taught, and I use a skim of RTV to not only hold the gasket in place, but for extra sealing properties against crush on the gasket itself. Which bolts do you mean?

@@paintucation I was talking about the automatic pan, the gasket hold the bolts perfect before lifting it up when mounting it back :)

@@tokslut Dude! That's agreat tip! Never though of that, but it would hold the gasket in place perfectly and the tension of the gasket holes would hold the bolts... I'll remember this! Thanks!
