I was finally able to do this to my F150 along with the water pump. I was this easy and it was as stated "everything pretty much falls back into place". My motor is a 2004. The only difference is that I cleaned my own injectors and replaced the micro filter baskets. I believe that these were the problem. Very easy to do. Now if we had some open water, it's still winter here. Thank you, it was a HUGE HELP!

Great video on servicing the VCT tank as I have the same engine and have to replace a dead high pressure pump in the VCT housing. Wondering if you made a video on cleaning the injectors. Thank you again!
@maineboatguy2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I have not done an injector cleaning video yet. I use a “motion pro” injector cleaner with “crc qd electrical cleaner”. Also you’ll want to replace the filters in the injectors if you feel you’ve got contamination past the high pressure pump filter.

My 2006 Yamaha F150 is running rough at idle, won't plane. I've already checked for water in the fuel at both the engine fuel filter as well as the fuel water separator as well as relaced the fuel water separator and the spark plugs. No change so I downloaded the Yamaha diagnostic software and ordered the cable to connect the laptop to the engine. No codes. I think this service is my next step but I don't think I want to tackle this myself. Can you give me a ball park of how much that service you just did might cost?

I pulled out the VST tank to check the needle and seat. Needle seemed to look just fine. Then I unscrewed the piece that holds the seat in place. After doing so I turned the top over and the seat just fell right out. Looking at it closer it looked just fine along with the o ring on it. When placing the seat back in the top of tank it just fell in place, again turning the cover the seat again just fell out. Seems to me like sloppy tolerances the way the seat does not seal at all even with the o ring in place. I placed the needle in the seat and blew on it without putting it back in the cover. It seals just fine. All the leakage seems to be by-passing the o-ring. I've been a technician all my life and this just doesn't seem right? Looks like all I need to do is replace the o-ring with one that seals properly. Lot of work to replace just an o-ring that should never fail. Ever come across this?
@maineboatguy2 ай бұрын
@@joanne737 it’s not a common occurrence but seems like some fuels make the o rings shrink and some fuels make the o rings swell up. I don’t recall having it happen in a VST but have had plenty of them do that in carburetors.

Awesome vid. Question...if you don't mind...I acquired a boat with this motor on it. Prior owner had a dealer in Maine repair it due to bad gas including salt water in the fuel. Motor has only 50 hours. After all repairs including replacing seized VST and all filters the motor ran ok but when tilting the motor up after running about a cup of gas poured out of the air filter housing. Is the likely culprit that needle valve under the float not seating properly? I'm thinking salt could have corroded the needle or dried out the rubber seal? Not sure why they didn't replace it when they had it open. When I called the dealer to complain they said they don't ever have to change them and never replace them as part of maintenance. I wasnt surprised to hear you say that you would replace it while in there...I personally would have changed everything including the float components if I knew salt was in the system. Now I have a different marina looking at it because the boat is no longer in Maine. I would have done it myself but didn't find your video till it was too late. Anything else you might replace while in there?

how often of hours do you do this for the f150s
@maineboatguy4 жыл бұрын
BroadBill Hunter Yamaha recommends every 3 years or 300 hours when using ethanol fuel.
@bobloshek7134 жыл бұрын
@@maineboatguy What if you use ethanol-free fuel? How many hours then? Thanks!
@maineboatguy4 жыл бұрын
@@bobloshek713 not sure how much of a difference that will make. Fuel filters should be changed just as often even with non ethanol fuel. But that’s just my opinion. Using non ethanol fuel will help you avoid running issues and damage to fuel system caused by “phase separation” but it doesn’t stop typical debris that the filters are catching.

@maineboatguy3 жыл бұрын
It's really not a hard job at all, I would recommend a service manual or LIT-18865-01-08 manual for instructions. You'll need to set timing at top dead center and have the correct torque wrench, also make sure you have an anaerobic sealant for reassembly. I don't have any videos on that at the moment. Sorry I couldn't help more!

What are symptoms of the motor that the vst needs replacing?

VST service is preventative maintenance, almost like doing a "tune up" but any sort of running issues would indicate its time to at least clean and inspect.

Jason Neve sorry I haven’t done one on injectors yet (I don’t think) but I typically just remove them and send to “fuel injector man” in Florida for a professional cleaning. There are just 2 screws and the fuel line holding the fuel rail and injectors on. Pretty straight forward but I’ll try to get a video up on that ASAP!

Nice work and detailed sufficiently. However, Yamaha should be ashamed that their engineering stinks, in so much as the level of effort and amount of work that’s needed to get to a simple filter replacement. Bad design and limited concern for the end user.
