in the netherlands we have special pond soil. do you think that will work? and will it work with 4 inch of sand or is sand blocking of the toxic gasses if it's decomposing?
@SteenfottAquatics6 жыл бұрын
4 inches might be too deep, I like to add Malaysian trumpet snails to stir up the substrate
@ChunkyOrca6 жыл бұрын
Steenfott Aquatics lol i understand 4 inches is a bit to deep. im from the eu so im used to the metric system. but topping it off with filtersand wont be a big problem? thanks for the amazingly fast answer! do you still think a dirted tank is worth it or will it get a mess fast?
@SteenfottAquatics6 жыл бұрын
As long and you are always moving plants around it should not get messy. I think dirt can be worth it, but i fiddle in my tanks too much so i dont think i could do it again.
@Funsun39 Жыл бұрын
Newbie to freshwater planted. From what I'm told eco complete absorbs fertilizer. How would it work with dirt capped with eco complete?
@SteenfottAquatics Жыл бұрын
Eco complete does not absorb fertilizer. Sure it could over a long period of time with a bunch of extra ferts in the water. But if youre using that much fertilizer you are going to have bigger issues haha. Your plants will uptake ferts faster than your substrate would ever absorb it. Also, plants feed through the roots, so even if the eco complete did absord any, it would be beneficial to the plants.

I think the fact that dirt doesn't leach into the water is because you put some little sand plus very thick layer of gravel over it. There is too little water touching the dirt surface. It may be good or bad. I would love to see the plant progress in that tank.

If it's the Palmeri variety they go purple above the black bar along the lateral line as they are they are called blue emperors because they have blue metallic eyes, the yellow emperor tetra is usually the younger version of the Palmeri which have more yellow possibly pink below the lateral line.
