This is the basics on setting up a fish tank. Its a 10 gallon with both mechanical and sponge filtration. I also show how to treat city water and how to speed up the growth of beneficial bacteria.

I’m not sure if I got this right but it do you have to wait weeks before you put your fish in there and is that a good system for just regular goldfish?
@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 2 жыл бұрын
Waiting depends on how large the tank is and how large the fish are, also the quantity of fish put in the tank. The problem comes if you have too many or too large of fish and the beneficial bacteria can’t keep up with the waste those fish produce. So add some type of quick start or even 2 different beneficial bacterias and add fish slowly that should greatly reduce any problems like ammonia burn. Also yes this applies to all types of fish.

the surface of the water needs movement to allow the exchange of co2 n oxygen, the breaking of the bubbles seems to work the best for that exchange but a waterfall type filter may work depending on the amount of fish in the tank.

Why did you put two filters in the tank?
@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 2 жыл бұрын
I love using sponge filters instead of just an air stone. It add gas transfer when the bubbles pop on the water’s surface while adding a surface for beneficial bacteria to grow. Second reason I like it is when u clean one filter and remove detritus you also remove some beneficial bacteria so I leave the other filter in the tank preventing a cycle crash. Then next time I clean my tank I clean the other filter always leaving one filter with enough beneficial bacteria to pick up the slack and cover the tank’s need.

Then after doing some research I realized it needs a filter and aeration so we got a new tank but I want to hurry up and get the thing out of the one gallon bowl because the water is getting very murky looking and I don't want the little guy to die do you think that it would be fine to put the fish in after using quick start or should I really wait and risk the fish just dying in the murky water

A water pump pumps water, an air pump pumps in air into the aquarium, making surface agitation, therefore speeding up gas exchange, increasing the oxygen levels in the tank. And yes you do need a light, leave it on for around 6-8 hours a day depending on whether or not you have have live plants. If you don’t have live plants leave your filter on for around 5 hours a day.

you added both sponge filter and a mechanical hang on filter, is both needed, what would you suggest? will a air stone also be needed?
@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 3 жыл бұрын
Both are usually not needed. But I add both to my tanks, then when cleaning I completely clean one of the two, leaving the other untouched. That way you don’t disrupt the beneficial bacteria and cause your tank to go through the nitrogen cycle again. Then weeks to a month later (whenever the tank needs to be cleaned) I will clean the untouched filter. I also don’t add air stones usually because I add an sponge filter which does the air stones job plus increase your beneficial bacteria area.

Yes a 10 gallon would be great. You could even add a couple other fish to the tank. Like neons, guppies, ember tetras or maybe some Cory catfish. I wouldn’t add all those but if u like one of those you could add a few. The Cory’s could mix with like neons and you’d be ok. Or I would get a fancy log fin albino bristle nose pleco and some fancy guppies and a betta! Just gotta get what you like. But yes a 10 gallon would be great!

When using quick start should I add ammonia than the quick start? So it can break that down and ultimately start the process, I have six shrimp on the way and my tank has not cycled yet so I need the best possible way to have it cuddled by the time they get here.

If your thermal/sticker thermometer is meant to check the effectiveness of the LED thermometer, why use both? Why not just use the sticker thermometer and avoid extra wires?

I’ve had led thermometers fail. So the stickers are cheap, easy to place, and hide. But the stickers are harder to read and less accurate.

@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 3 жыл бұрын
Rocks for your base substrate are not necessary exactly but it increases the surface are for good bacteria to grow on so it is a great idea for most fish. Some fish may prefer no substrate. You will have to do research on that. Decorations usually help by giving fish places to hide, feel safe, get away from other fish which should improve their health.

@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 3 жыл бұрын
I believe quick start states you can add fish immediately. If I were to do that it would only be one fish. And add more slowly over time. The best idea is to wait at least a few days to week. But if you want to add fish right away test water frequently or get a seachem ammonia alert. That way you can make sure the water never gets dangerous for the fish. And if the levels start to rise water change and add more quick start, at least that’s what has worked for me

I have never used it but it seems it’s a beneficial bacteria so yes you should be fine. Just make sure u treat the water with conditioner if needed and wait at least 15 min. Also my little secret is I always buy 2 different brands of beneficial bacteria and use them both. Not sure how much it helps but I figure it can’t hurt. Different companies use different strains of bacteria so I figure add it and really get the cycle going.

Hi I'm upgrading to 20 L..I. currently have an established 10gallon.I plan on using the seeding method,where I read in one of your response to someone about moving all the filter media to the new aquarium.Id just like to know if the plan i have is on point and your perspective on it.I plan to put my established bio media in the new filter along with new bio and let it run and also transport my current substrate into the new tank.In addition id like to also add the bottled live beneficial bacteria as an added boost.Im aware the cycle takes time and has to go run its course as im doing a fishless cycle in the new aquarium.With that being said i still have my fish in the current 10g ..will they be ok in a separate container until i am ready to add them in the new aquarium?
@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 4 жыл бұрын
michael marra transferring all that media and substrate over plus adding fresh media and bottled bacteria I personally would just move the fish too. The cycled media should run the tank and new media will give room for more bacteria to grow. In theory your tank will already be cycled because your substrate and most of your media is already cycled. Check out king of diy that how he starts up new tanks so quickly.

@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 4 жыл бұрын
michael marra I wouldn’t add any old water that doesn’t really carry a lot of good bacteria in it. Most of that bacteria is on surfaces. I would condition the water let it sit for 5-10 min. Add the gravel and then add the conditioned water and some bottled bacteria. Let the filter run and add the fish when the tank is up to temp

@electricblueaquariums4821
@electricblueaquariums4821 2 жыл бұрын
Well every tank is different, size of tank, amount of substrate and other objects where beneficial bacteria can grow on, amount of fish in the tank producing waste, if beneficial bacteria was added all have an affect on the nitrogen cycle and speed at which that beneficial bacteria can handle the waste produce by the inhabitants. So adding quick start or similar product can speed that up prior to adding fish to give the nitrogen cycle a head start. But exact days to wait is unknown unless adding an ammonia source and testing.
