Thats the way to do it. You have to stake all the spots. True. Sides first. Then center ridge pole 90% bring both sides up. Back to center. Can be done. Not without staking the tent though. Great video chris.

Man, nice job! I appreciate you setting this up by yourself, cuz that's what many of us solo campers are looking for. Good point about patience. Sometimes we're our own worst enemies!

Thanks for the demo. One note for all you guys setting up in high winds pound your tent stakes in at a 45 deg angle to the tent not straight up and down. Much more secure in high winds since more difficult to pull out at 45 degrees.

If you put up the center ceiling pole up first and extend it fully... The whole tent will stand up and then you can do the sides.

Thanks for the video. My sons are taking our tent up to northern Minnesota camping today, and I was hoping to find a straight forward video to show them, and this definitely fits the bill. We took our to the BWC area in Northern Minnesota last fall, and we got caught in a blizzard for for days, as well as winds of 40-70mph(got woken up to what sounded like a train) for days, and I firmly believe that had we not clamped with this tent that we wouldve been in BIG trouble! 3'-5' waves for 4-5 days, meant we weren't going anywhere.

Perfect. Thanks for the video. Had a hard time setting mine up. Didn't know you had to stake it down first.

Yeah man, really need to stake it. Setting it up without staking would be nearly impossible. Glad the video helped. Cheers!

I like that this tent has the tension screw pins on the poles to adjust the height. I hope they will hold up well. This seems so much easier than other poles I've had with a buttons that click into specific holes. I'd get pinched trying to adjust them sometimes or the button mechanism would get stuck. I figure since I could set up a tall canvas screen tent (with no floor to keep things easily square) by myself this ought to be very manageable. This may even be easier than trying to get a fly over a tall dome tent by myself or keeping long poles inside grommets. Also, I love that we will be able to easily zip up windows from inside if it rains in the night. My REI Base 6 tent would get stuffy on hot nights, but I'd be nervous to take off the fly because I didn't want to have stumble around outside in the dark trying to secure a fly should it be needed. I'm excited for the arrival of my new tent! Ready to go old school!

Looks like a really nice tent, thanks for sharing, I will be adding a canvas tent to our camping gear this year, and looking around to see what all is out there, I want a wood burning stove in mine, that is a must for us. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed week sir. Oh, we subbed you as well, so we can follow along as you put more videos up about this tent. Dale

Thanks for the set up videos. I’m in the process of deciding between cabin tent and flexbow for my family of five. After 50+ nights in four years we wore out our Gander Mountain tent (nylon fabric).
@Outwestwithchris1
@Outwestwithchris1 6 жыл бұрын
Family of 5 huh? Maybe on of the cabin tents with the wall enclosure awnings. That way you can keep gear in an enclosed area and all the room inside the tent can be used for sleeping space. That would probably work.
@samuelwiltzius
@samuelwiltzius 6 жыл бұрын
Out West with Chris my thought too. As kiddos get bigger the ability to expand storage space would extend the usefulness of a long-lasting tent. I’m still debating if set up/take down speed is a priority.
@jshoota19ify
@jshoota19ify 6 жыл бұрын
Samuel Wiltzius even though the 10×14 flexbow is technically bigger, the slanted side walls tend to make the tent feel a tad smaller than it is perfect for my 4 person family...I agree with Chris about the cabin tent. Plus, I would think the cabin tent will feel roomier with the more vertical walls.

I love Cabela's but they were much more expensive. Check out Competitive Edge. They are in Layton Utah. By far the best price we found and shipping was free and took two days. We have the 10 x 10 flexbow. 6011 I think.... With the windows all the way around. The packaging says it is 79 pounds, but it isn't so heavy as the tent poles are in a separate bag. I can set it up by myself. This is the best tent I have ever had, and I have slept in a lot of them.

Hey Chris, I've seen your review of the flex bow... after using both, which do you prefer & why? Would you use each for different reasons or are you sticking to one or the other? I have the flex bow 10x12 and my only complaint is the overall weight of the thing and size of the bag when storing, other than that its a cinch to set-up and tear down and super roomie for a family of 4.

That window door that you showed that turns into an awning does not have a zipper at the bottom. It just has hey small velcro piece. It only has zippers on the sides. Do you find that cold air seeps up from the bottom and into the tent?

They are both champs in the wind in my opinion. I haven't had the Cabin in any really really gusty winds just yet so until I have a chance with that I'm gonna lean towards the Flexbow. I have had the Cabin tent in a several day long snow fall though and it did fine.

I like the footprint of the Cabin Tent and the steep side walls. The carrying bag for the flexbow is way better and set-up is a bit more simple. I think the Cabin tent is going to be better for me in the long run, tons of windows for ventilation during summer camping. Both are great.

I agree, with Jim, Chris. Compared with that awesome flexbow (which is bigger right?), the set up is a nightmare for 1 person and I would bet money, even with a friends help, the flexbow set up, still would be quicker, which was the main reason why I bought one myself...Just curious, were you bored of your flexbow, because it was so easy, ha!...The only feature the cabin tent has the advantage on, over the flex bow, would be the vertical walls, dont you think?

The Flexbow setup is faster but actually not by a whole lot. I got the cabin tent for review purposes and cause I wanted to change things up a bit. I do like the vertical walls of the cabin tent as well as the window layout. It will be nice and airy. Cheers!
