How to Set up a Morse Code Straight Key

There is an enormous variety of Morse keys, but one thing they all have in common is that they need to be properly adjusted. This video shows you how to adjust Morse code straight keys so that they can perform to their very best and they are easy to use.
Different Morse keys can have different numbers of adjustments that need to be made. Some have two adjustments, some have three and others have more.
The video shows you how to make the adjustments for the various forms of key, including the America Steel Lever key for which there are bearing adjustments.
In addition to showing you how to adjust the key, there are some bonus tips about using the Morse key.

7:48 the center cross bearings actually adjust two things, they can center the top and bottom contacts one to the other sideways and they also adjust the bearing drag that you do well explained.

Yes I agree. May be I didn’t explain well enough that the bearing adjusters centre the lever and hence the contacts as well as the “drag” . Thanks for highlighting.

I received a DM-901 as a Christmas gift today. It came with no instructions for its features. I'd like to learn CW, and the person who bought me the key had no idea that it had voice and beep features. Without a manual, I have no idea what to do to make these features work. Since I don't know CW, I don't want to connect it to my radio just for practice. If you have suggestions for me and my issue, it's appreciated.

I confess I don't know the DM901, but it looks like a straight morse key that can be used with an oscillator or a radio transmitter. It is just like a switch that opens and closes, making and breaking a circuit.

I have a chinese DM-901 which is a battery powered beeper, cheap and nasty circuit, purely functional. They could'nt even be bothered to install a proper square wave generator ! However, i only bought it for the pure morse key, not the beeper function. You need something like a preamp and headphones with volume control to make use of the beeper. It's got a 3 pin 2.4 mm jack for its output. Hope that helps.
