I am new to fly fishing but have fished for 50+ years. I have been watching lots of how to videos. Almost without exception they do nothing to unravel the mysteries. This video is fantastic, easy to understand, properly explained and terrific diagrams. In next to no time I now know how to set up for nymphing, what I need to buy and how to use it . Thanks

This has become my new favorite channel. Just discovered it a week or so ago. I appreciate the simplicity yet how informative each vid is! Very straight-forward, but thorough. You explain everything at the most basic level so even those who have no experience whatsoever can follow along and understand. Many channels take that for granted and either skip over stuff, go too fast, or just don't do a good enough job "teaching" the art. Thank you!

Are you adding tippet to tippet and the end of your leader. You guys are great. !
@venturesflyco8 ай бұрын
Adding tippet to the end of the leader to form surgeons knot. Then adding tippet from nymph 1 to nymph 2.

Thank you so much for all the amazing videos! Learning alot from them 🤩 One questions; why do you use two nymphs? Is it a must? Thanks!
@venturesflyco3 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! No, you could just use one nymph. I guess the logic is two flies doubles your chances at getting a fish's attention and getting it to the right depth.

So you technically could just use a regular fishing rod if you are throwing a bobber and weights? Just ordered my first fly rod, have plenty of doing rods and bait casters.
@NomenClature-o8sАй бұрын
Yes, a light spinning rod would work fine with this rig.

Could I use a tippet ring instead of the triple surgeons knot?
@jimquantic23 күн бұрын
I'm wondering if you can use a spinning rod, 2 pound test, fly line a nymph or other fly, split shot and experiment. I always used a fly and bobber for trout on the surface towards dusk, but I would think it might work without a bobber??? Maybe a floating fly, to keep it off the bottom, maybe 12 inch leader.
@KingGort9 күн бұрын
Do you need to add split shot to this rig to have it be effective?
@venturesflyco8 күн бұрын
Not if your flies are heavy enough or if you move your indicator up. Split shot is a last resort.

I am new to fly fishing with nymphs. I have fly fished with dry flies and wet flies. However, I am confused. This sounds like bottom fishing with a casting rod, a cork and a jig, but using a fly rod. What am I missing?
@Gray_Macdon194 ай бұрын
Are you still able to set this rig up with barbless flys? Or will the line connecting the first fly to the second fly slide off the hook of the first one without the barb?

Question, the diagram shows the tapered leader and tippet under water, I thought the tapered leader will float on top of the water? or is the nymph fly making the tapered leader sink lower?
@venturesflyco2 ай бұрын
If you're fishing nymphs, you're fishing flies below the surface, so you want everything, including your leader, to sink.

why do you need to attach tippet to the leader and not just use straight leader?

The extra knot ensures that the split shot doesn’t slide down to your flies while fishing.

@peatographee54285 ай бұрын
Not sure what he’s talking about. I thought it was rather helpful I would just love it if it included quick tutorials for each knot and show actually tying the whole rig instead of having to hit like 5 different videos. But hey you get more views that way so I can’t really blame you! 😂
