A powerline adaptor connects your computer to the internet by using your home's electrical wiring. With a powerline adaptor, you can truly get the best of both worlds. A powerline adaptor is sometimes called a powerline-Ethernet adaptor because it still uses an Ethernet cable, just in a more limited capacity.
@Jahfull Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! This was the best video I found explaining everything clearly!

Omg, I always thought my powerline thing was a distance thing, so they never connected, I switched from a adapter powerline plug, to a wall socket and I got connection. This video should have way more likes. Never thought it was sending a connection through the powerline lmao

Powerline adapters are great if your wiring allows good function. The documentation that comes with the Powerline adapters state put them on the same electrical circuit for best result. I have sending unit downstairs and the receiving unit upstairs. Speed is not too great and tried to use to connect to TiVo Mini without success. Computer connection was just OK but not great.
@chaston281 Жыл бұрын
Very good but would like to know the speed you’re getting from both hard wire and wifi extension.

I realize this is an old video and I’m late to the game but I was wondering does the Internet come in through the powerline adapter abide by the same firewall and security that you have set up with your Internet? I assume it does?
@JJFlores1973 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. This setup uses your home's electrical wiring as a way to send network traffic. It doesn't alter the actual traffic.

When you say to make sure your modem or router is plugged in do you mean for power or with an ethernet cord and port(so like establishing an original connection to then use the adapter for). Or can this be used to establish an internet connection completely without a single wall ethernet port?

Great video. I like that the distinct parts are easily identifiable using the stripy tee shirt against the dark curtain as punctuation! Me - I'm trying to get stronger wifi in my garden. The garden electrical circuit is, currently, the lighting circuit. My router, boosters, mainline internet adapters are inside on the plug socket circuit. I think I'm going to have to do some more tinkering. There's only a foot of bricks in between a TP Link AC1900 (plugged in right next to one of my two TP-Link TL-PA9020PKIT 2-Port Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starters) and, on the external side of the wall, one of my two TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT Nano Powerline Adapters next to a NETGEAR 11AC 750 Mbps (300 Mbps + 450 Mbps) Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Range Extender. Not making much of a difference, though. Wifi, in the garden, is still patchy. I've got all these bits and I'm sure I'm not using any of them correctly! One of the TP-Link TL-PA9020PKITs is connected, to the router, with an ethernet cable. I think I got that bit right. I am currently, in a way, trying to house a tiger in a shoe box! Got a lovely big enclosure set up - the tiger is still happiest in the shoe box. Also, I suspect the Netgears are fighting with the TP Links...

Great video but it did not work for my customer, I had him buy a TP link two unit model such as the one in this video.. after more than an hour trying to set-up at a distance with him on the phone I gave-up, it seem that power line models work on the same electrical circuit, but when on a different circuit it may not function, so it got returned to Amazon. I told my customer to go and buy the Netgear wall plug wifi mesh single extender that was in-stock at his local Staples store. It has worked perfectly, my customer has an IP phone that is far from the router and requires a wired connection. With the WPS setup I was able to guide him over the phone. Really great during Covid as he is 79.

Gabba Shanking I did for some reason my Ethernet port on my motherboard was disabled. The speed was 1/4 of what my internet said it was because of old wiring so I just got an Ethernet cable instead😀
@nabilxmph71517 жыл бұрын
I had a problem in connecting the base with the extender at first, until I plug the base DIRECTLY to wall socket rather than to power strip. Also, before I move the extender, I set up both dongles close by until they both connected. Only then, I moved the extender to my bedroom and no problem after that. The speed in the extender is consistently only about half of the speed router though... Not sure why.
