What if I don’t have a trembler with the Post system. Six individual screws vintage Stratocaster? You can’t screw those damn to lower action. You have to lower them with the saddle. That being said, will that throw the whole process of tuning that G string using tremolo “ genius, by the way” I’ve seen somebody else do it, they gave you no credit. I let everybody know where it came from. My sister and brother-in-law just got handed down six villas in Tuscany. Or Tuscana. Beautiful. Let me know if lowering action with saddle flows off your newly set up tremolo. by the way, I’m an American. Bye a made in Japan Stratocaster mid 80s. It will be the best fit and finish feeling strategic after you ever played. Unless you’re already aware. Just trying to pass it along to you.

This video is nearly 10 years old and it is still one of the best on KZbin. If there was an award for the most clear and concise video on KZbin on any subject this would be right up there along with your follow up video on the 6 screw trem. Not only is it informative it is done with encouragement for the viewer. You are a natural teacher. Every teacher of any subject in the world should watch this as part of their training. Many thanks.

My firs impression was, "Oh no, I'm going to have trouble understanding this guy", but this was an EXCELLENT demonstration, easy to understand, very detailed and thorough, without extraneous biography, like so many other videos by people who love to hear themselves talk. This video lets you see what a real pro is doing when he sets-up your tremolo. He's the BEST.

This is arguably one of the most valuable guitar setup videos I've ever seen. My father passed just over a year and a half ago and I recently acquired his guitar. Nothing special--an old EVH Wolfgang clone. Until now I'd rendered it unplayable as it has a cheap 2-post tremolo. This video has brought it new life so to say and I'm happy to be able to honor my late dad by getting his guitar properly setup. Cheers!

Awesome video. One thing I would like to add is that after you keep the sticky notes at 4:44, would be the best times to adjust your 6 screws on the bridge. At this point tighten the 6 screws so that it just touches the plate. Now, at this point, try to lift the tremolo arm up/outward. It shouldn't move. If your tremolo moves upward it means you should tighten your screws. Also make sure that both sides are still parallel as said in the video.

Another suggestion for your consideration: After you tuned the strings with the "pink" pad, you can just unscrew the tremolo screws until the "pink" pad falls indicating a balcance between the strings and the springs. I enjoyed all your videos, thank you! jc

As an update to a previous comment I made. I just fully floated my bridge a la Jeff Beck in my cheap Stratocaster copy and this technique is definitely the way to do it. The whammy bar is now very light to operate and quite honestly loads of fun. Tuning stability is quite good with minor retuning necessary after each piece of music.
@fendafred
@fendafred 6 жыл бұрын
One remark: if you turn the pivot screw with string tension (to lower or increase action as shown at the end of that video), you will scratch it with the plate's knife edge and this will impact the ability of the tremolo to return to its "zero" position.

When I first got my strat, I thought it was "broken" when the bridge was high up off the body. It looked very unnatural. So I set it up to be almost completely flush, but just barely off the top. Well, something kept telling me that I didn't like my guitar. I finally followed these instructions for floating, and now I absolutely love my Strat. I don't know what I was thinking before but sometimes you just got to try new things!

the important thing, does it stay in tune better now when using the trem?
@ripplebear
@ripplebear 3 жыл бұрын
@@sixslinger9951 yes it does. Combined with giving the unwound strings a couple of extra wraps above and below, it's very difficult to move it out of tune. Super stable, yet plays loose and free, all around.

I've been wanting to set my strat up with a floating tremolo for a while...I paid to have it setup with it on the deck for easy restringing but to my ears the tone suffered by having the block jammed against the wood inside the guitar. So, I gave your method a try today and I can't believe it took me this long to finally set it up. I can use the whammy bar all day long and it still stays in tune, love it! To stay in tune, apply chapstick to the nut grooves using a toothpick.

Thanks so much. But my tuning goes sharp when I pull the tremolo, and flat when I dive. I have to manually kind of shake it back to return to perfect pitch. Bridge makes a click sound when i go up more than one note on G string with tremolo. Already lubricated the nuts. Anyone else facing the same problem?
@jimmcmahon8817
@jimmcmahon8817 6 жыл бұрын
That often means your springs aren't at optimal tension. Choose the right number of springs for the gauge of strings. Usually 3 springs unless using heavy strings. They have to be set so that even at the most relaxed position they are still somewhat stretched. If they are too relaxed at rest then the guitar wont return to tune.

Men I have a question should this set up be made after intonating the guitar? or should it be done before I´m having trouble with the tunning after adjusting the floating tremolo, it just wont stay in tune. And Its weird because its seems that when I use the tremolo bar the guitar looses its intonation and everything goes out of tune I have a fender stratocaster americal deluxe and it has the LSR Roller nut, which is suppose to help with the guitar intonation overall the guitar, and eventhough it wont stay in tune Do you have any advise for me Frudua, Ill aprecciated

I tried this procedure and it actually worked for me! On an Epiphone S310 which is a plywood bottom of the line guitar. I put Super-Vee Super glide on the nut which likely helps, but that's all I did. The tuners are original which means they're low end generic but they do not go out of tune! I'm a lone player in my house, I dont get stupid with that trem arm. Kudos to you for making this video and "duh" to all those who are vindictive toward Chinese guitars.

I was just about to swap bodies so I could use a 6 screw vintage tremolo because I could not get this 2 pt to float properly. Very frustrated with it!! Damn, I'm glad you posted this video!! Now I know how to make the 2 point work perfectly!! Come si dice it in italiano: TWAAAANG!

Your videos are great. I play a lot and have never done any guitar set up work. This gives me the information and courage to try.

Came across your great videos a few years ago and followed one to set up a six-point trem. I just got a Vintera '60s Mod. Strat that has a two-point trem so I thought I'd follow your advice once more and it worked perfectly. The best method for setting a floating trem in - if not exactly seconds! - then pretty quickly and easily. By the way, one small error, that's not a Philips driver that you used on the pivot posts!

Turned my 1997 Squier Affinity into a really playable axe. The factory had the spring tension screws screwed all the way into the body. Grazie mille for sharing this priceless tip!

I really like your idea of using post-its to hold the space between body and bottom of bridge during adjustment. Very cool.
