My palette: primary or bright red, primary yellow, phthalo blue (this blue scratches more itches for me than primary), white and black (and the black is a very recent addition). Why? My studio most often is the world. I have to get my supplies to whatever corner of the world I want to paint. Also, with only 5 colors, I can buy it by the quart, and it's so much easier to stay on top of just 5. Nothing worse than to get to a location and realize, you're out of a color you need! It used to happen to me often when I used many more colors. This practice also forces you to get scary good at mixing colors. There are exceptions. If it is commissioned or novelty work, I will sometimes add a color or two, like a metallic or some such, because I like clients to smile when they meet their new treasure or, to give something that extra bit of pop.

Hi there... thanks for your lovely and useful videos... to avoid any mistakes, is it the "safflower oil" you are using for the brushes or the "sunflower oil"... thanks for your reply....

Although I appreciate the reasons for using a EdgePro Paint Book, it's too expensive for an entry-level painter. Are there any more economical options for a new painter that still include a glass palette?
