How to set up Atomos Ninja V

If I’m using the Atomos SD do I still need SD Cards in the camera? Is that storage the primary storage once it’s attached to the Atomos?

When I use Ninja I only record there, so no 👍 Atomos will be primary and only storage

Either auto, that is really good, or a small Tilta focus ring for better control. Waiting on the Nucleus Nano II release. On for example RS2 pro I’m either auto or manual

Hi, I have Canon R6 mkii and I plan on buying the latest Atmos ninja to record 4K video while taking photos simultaneously, is this something you have done before/made a video about? I am told this is possible, but I can't find any examples of it working/in action. I don't want to invest if it won't work in practice, both photos and videos would be of equal benefit to me for my KZbin channel. ATB Andy

You wan't to record what you do when you take a photo? For BTS purpose? Like when you shift F or A that should be recorded? But you still need to be in photography mode?

@@persvanstrom I am wanting to record a video sequence at the same time I am taking pictures that would be recorded in camera on the SD card. But the video recording in the ninja would record the aircraft as I track it directly from the R6 MK2 sensor. Would the video in the ninja show the shutter actuations with each picture taken or would it be a clear clean sequence? I always use tracking and BBF when taking pictures in this way. What battery are you using? I cannot get any power to my Ninja. The battery pack I’m using isn’t powering it up for some reason.

I mostly use power cable when I use my Ninja. Got a few original NPF that works Atomos power addition

Would you happen to know how to be able to use the record button on the ATOMOS ninja ultra with a Fujifilm xh2s? I can’t seem to figure it out

One thing to know is that is not possible to record on the Ninja V in FHD 24 fps or 30 fps. I did ruin one shoot that I set it up in the camera (Canon R6) at FHD 24fps, butautomatically the Ninja V recorded it at 60 fps.

Sometimes. The Atomos I use to view my shot, but still use camera to tweak settings. Any specific use case you are thinking about?

One small note! If you have the camera record enabled in the HDMI menu it will effect the overheating issue on the R6. After I disabled that and started just clicking recording on the Atomos I haven’t had ANY over heating.

Yeah, good find. When you click record on the Atmos, you only record externally, but when you hit record on the camera, with the settings, you record both internally and externally. The problem with internal recording isn't only overheating, but also the 30-minute time limit. Glad you got it to work and thank you for sharing

I believe only R5 is able to record both internally and externally at the same time.

An update to my original comment. Even when triggering the record on the Ninja I have found that the R6 will over heat. The amount of time you get before over heating depends on the ambient temperature the frame rate at which you are shooting.

Oh, i’m very sorry to hear that mate. I’ve got mine used with the full accessory pack, but I still use custom HDMI cables :-)

I have the eos 90d and it is difficult for me to match its connection with the atoms and I have 2 cables but they are not the cables it is the connection that does not work I don't know if it is the legalization problem

There are no videos for the Ninja ULTRA, tried following this video since eI have the R6mkII and NINJA. Setup works beautifully , until I switch off the camera and the Ninja. Wench I switch it off and turn it on again, the NINJA goes blank, no recording nothing on the screen. Absolutely frustrating. Any ideas ? is this normal, Is there anyone else experiencing this ?

Internal recording is still 30min cap. Only way to record longer is to only record in the Ninja. When recording in the camera or dual (both camera and Ninja, the camera will limit to 30min. I hope that helps

I think you're missing a few features on the Ninja such as the "Legalize" toggle for c-log 3, you might need to update your firmware and you can get a little more out of it

Thank you very much for both taking the time to watch as well as leaving helpful and thoughtful comments. I really appreciate it. Reason I left legalized off is I shoot in log as well as editing in DaVinci. I don't see any reason why I would want to compress my videos from full to legalized (as the clog is full) as I can treat that in post. I do know some NLE's don't give the option to change full and then legalized is important. I should prob have covered that, but was trying to to make the video to complicated or to long. You think it would make for a good video, explain legalized and full range in detail? As I cover firmware update in my video, I ensure I keep all my devices updated 👍

@@persvanstrom something very stupid happens when I change focus on my lens. My ninja V shows a central picture in picture frame, basically a zoom-in window to pull the focus. The fact is this small central frame appears in the final recording too. How do I remove it?

@@persvanstrom solved. Basically By default Panasonic BGH1 has this stupid setting, a 2x focus magnification. I turned it off in-camera, Ninja V was innocent this time haha

I just purchased a ninja and when I shot the first day and recorded on it I see all the camera settings on the screen the red box around it and everything making the footage unusable. Can anyone tell me how to make this go away or point me to another video that does please!

Go into menu 1 - tab 8 and pick HDMI display and make sure it is set to camera + external. Should solve your issues
