To the viewers with interest in this process presented in this video. This was my Tahoe. Never had an issue come up after this install was performed. I’m sort of upset though after reading some of these comments about installing an isolator with this set up. After never having it fail me, I didn’t know it could get better than working perfectly for so long. -Great job sir

Good video, BUT you shouldn't mix two different types of batteries together just like you should never use an old battery with a new battery because one will always drain the other one. Always replace both batteries together new and use same type of battery so they don't have any issues connected together.

1 gauge welding cable a copper lugs with a crimp hammer shrink tubing and dielectrical grease Cut to length no need of coiling extra left over wire that has power having to travel a longer distance. Add in 3/8 bolts with a few washers and a lock washer and nut for side posts You now have a thicker wire resistant to heat and everything is still cheaper than buying ready made wires and kits Also look into alts with a higher Amp output I swaped my Blazer CS-130 which was a 85amp to a 145amp for around the same price as the first one

leaving the batteries connected in parallel will wear down the stronger battery while it tries to charge the weaker one. isolate one for starting and only connect them when key on, or oil pressure, or something. nice crescent wrench
@outdoortradesman1424 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I disagree - Couple things. One, I was using the tools out of my HVAC van. Lol. Worked, didnt it? I have more tools than I know what to do with. 2 - There is nothing wrong with a charged battery discharging energy into another battery. That is the point of a battery. To discharge energy. Granted, over the lifetime of a battery you only get so many charges and discharges, but the number is very high. If you are using the batteries only when the car is on and using the the alternator (upgraded amperage in a more demanding system), both batteries should only ever need a small surface charge to stay topped off. The point of having a deep cycle as a second battery in a system thats demanding, such as if you had subwoofers, is to act essentially as a large capacitor for long bass hit draws, which a high output alternator should quickly recover from in between bass hits, not to mention you will likely not be playing full volume your entire drive or everytime you drive and the demand is much less at lower volumes. I think people think you need an isolator and don't even know why. In my view the only need for an isolator would be if you were in competition and played your audio system with the vehicle off. That way you don't drain your starting battery dead while the car is off. Or, if you were trying to be overly protective and in the event of one of the batteries failure, to protect the other one. But just because you drop a cell in one battery does not mean it will instantly ruin the other and it should be noticed pretty quickly in your systems performance if you are mindful. This is the way I've done it in multiple vehicles over many years and never had to replace any batteries, including in a 3500 watt RMS system. This is my opinion based on experience. If it makes you feel any better, when I was the lead tech at the last shop I worked at, I often argued about the principle of replacing OEM dual batteries in pairs. Tech B would say on a diesel for example if one battery is bad both should be replaced. I wholeheartedly disagree.
@zap2654 жыл бұрын
@@outdoortradesman142jon, i have some experience too, and i'm telling you the stronger battery will have reduced useful life if it's surface charge is always getting pissed away into a weaker battery. that said a relay is pretty cheap and my second battery is only connected to the charging system (and oher battery)when the key is on. i dont have a killer soundsystem, i have cameras and recorders. they are on the deep cycle non-engne starting battery.

Pretty straight forward. Good idea by GM and putting that second battery tray under the hood just in case.Beats having to run your wires to the back and saves you from having to manufacture another tray yourself.Does your main starting battery need to be stronger or at least equal in strength to your new addition or will a stronger alternator smooth that out or as long as it's getting the proper charge it's all good?. Thanks guys.

@outdoortradesman1423 жыл бұрын
No I do not recommend hooking both batteries to the alternator. Alternators work partially on demand according to how much energy they need to produce. If you have them both ran seperately to the alternator if one battery is charged and the other is not it could theoretically overcharge the charged battery and cause damage.
@Catholic13913 жыл бұрын
Ok than, on the main battery I will run an other pos 0 gage wire to the alternator, than from the main 1st battery to the 2nd battery than to a 3rd battery. The 3rd battery will hook up to a Orion HCCA 3000.1 will that be ok I do plan to upgrade my alternator.

@outdoortradesman1423 жыл бұрын
In a case where the batteries are connected without an isolator, and one battery is bad or on its way out going bad, it CAN take the other battery out. This is a "risk" of running this setup. Typically though if one out of 2 goes bad, you'd replace both anyhow though. Like in the case of dually trucks with factory dual batteries. One goes bad, dealership policy is to replace both regardless.

Did u run them is series or keep them separate.larger wire size with more strands are best like 1/0 age shit there’s 8/0 awg now Steve mead has a video that shows the size of almost a quarter in thickness.

Four 100 watt rms woofers on alpine four Chanel amp, four mids and tweeters as separates on alpine two Chanel amp and it’s ok for now. Head unit is an older alpine from 2007/8 model year as I’m still living old school with cds and I-pod touch 4 from 2010/11 with the added pod cable on back of unit plugin. Duel 2 gage Big 4 upgrade/ duel alts and duel batteries both AGM style 1000 cca, stereo shop ran 1 gage back to rear then blocked into 4 gage to all amps +/- wires 8 gage to sub wires +/- per coil x2, None of the car harness wires are used for speakers only ignition switch head-unit on/off. Also amps are turned on/off by the head-unit. My lights don’t flicker even when at a stop light and my amps stay cool and don’t go into protect mode ever not even the four Chanel and it pounds well enough for me.

So I’m sure a lot of viewers would like to had power pulling ideas to there’s vehicles and watched this video to see what the guy who presumes to know the process has to say about it. But the one thing this video shows mainly, is, one way to install a dual battery in a truck with a factory system and know extra accessories such lights, wenches, ext. It’s a proven sure way to had a second battery, be it the similar or exactly matching, to an AMG car battery in a vehicle to prevent needing, but not having extra electricity in case you ever need it. Say like in a place where weather can be 60 degrees at 4pm to below freezing at 11pm like bipolar Indiana. Where there’s a scare you might, one random morning, not have enough juice to start your classic internal combustion engine for work the next day. It’s about dependability and piece of mind. I must admit. This was actually my 96’ Tahoe in the video, and as of today, I’ve driven this heavy crossover packed down with 100’s of lbs of tools over 54k more miles since installing hat 2nd battery. I’ve never had my cranking battery fail. Great things were done in this video. I bet you advertising that other guy on this video gave him a key board b*n*r. -Enjoyed hearing from people.
