I've had some irrigation plumbing done in pex that has frozen solid several times and has been fine. Even the brass fittings are fine... I think the pipe itself expands enough to protect the fittings too.

Very good! I may have to try this. BTW, those nipples don't need a pressurized system my outdoor summer cages use those nipples fed from a 2-gallon reservoir sitting on top of the cage so there's only a foot of drop between the reservoir and the nipples.

Good comment, but a gravity fed system in climate would freeze solid.

Can I ask you to try an experiment? Please pretty please? My low tech idea that I would like you try something like this. Take a coffee thermos or 2 and fill them with boiling water. Then seal them up tight so that there is no chance of leakage. Drop them into your cooler and walk away. Of coarse pull the plug on the floating heater at this point. My hypothesis is that the heat slowly seeping through the sides of the thermos will keep the water from freezing for at least a day or overnight. Can you try this and see how long it goes for the first round and maybe a second round of thermos heaters?

I guess you still need power for the pump so maybe the thermos idea would only be a zero power option if the rabbits have access to the water directly from the cooler via a nipple through the cage rather than a pipe.

Hi Rob, I’m curious to know if this worked throughout the winter in Calgary? Let me know if you have any other update? Thanks

My system is very much like that. I use an aquarium pump and a aquarium heater. Very inexpensive. Works great.

Does it keep it flowing and keep the metal tips from freezing too? I live in Maine

What rabbit nipples did you use? I bought some from rabbitnipples (the se5 model). I setup a system like this, but when pressing down on the pin, barely get a drip-drip-drip out of it. If I lift up... I do get more water. Concerned that the rabbits will not get enough water with these. Their old watering system (gravity fed, using 3/16 with barb fitting provided much more water).

You can spray vinegar to neutralize the ammonia.

For a second I thought you were making a French press for the rabbits.

My bunny prefers licking an ice block over the freshwater I bring to him. Funny. 😃 I have written a book about my bunny, Sweet Thing. He is an indoor-outdoor bunny and loves being in the front yard where he receives lots of attention from passers-by. Here is a link to my book about him and his bunny friends-wp.me/piRgw-1Mz

Our rabbits live outside and they love eating snow! They don't need water:)

Thats great! Do you still offer water occasionally? I would be concerned about their internal body temperature.
