Those instructions are soo complicated, for an 80 yo, w/o resources paid or unpaid... i already have two roku devices, one in living room, one in bedroom installed over 5 years ago, the thought of installing another just to update is mind blowing, for this oldie... good luck youngins. why in this universe you don't have the wherewithall to find a simpler solution for installation.... hi tech indeed, not.

No, because it's somewhat expensive to produce so they ship it quite cheap and save money in aggregate. They collect your serial number to ensure that 1 roku device can only get 1 extension cable. It's better that the average consumer saves money on things they won't use, and the company saves money on producing waste.

such unnecessary waste that that would produce. its mindsets like this that have our planet where it is today. not all would have a need for the hdmi modification... you would think that would be common knowledge but not here in the greedy/impatient/wasteful U.S.A. its actually surprising they are thoughtful enough to even offer the adapter when other uniqe issues like this we encounter with various electronics require a lone trip to a department store or online shop to find our own solutions.

I was tempted by one of these but I'd have to use a USB in the side of the TV then run an HDMI cable to the opposite end of my soundbar which just isn't very elegant. I wish it was a straight HDMI connection.

hdmi ports do not supply power so therefore impossible to have it without a usb chord to power it.

I've seen many unboxing's here in youtube without the HDMI extension or dongle and while getting my wallet ready to buy it but I'm afraid it doesn't come included in the box since my Tv have a bulge behind that won't allow to me to connect the ROku to it.

I am on my second Roku Model Stick (this new model and original stick that still works after daily use for 7 years). Its somewhere in your connection. How far is Roku from WiFi home device, whats your internet speed do you have the minimum required, check the power input to the Roku and is the power connected/secure. RoKu has support available via their website www.roku.com/en-us/

STAY AWAY FROM ROKU!! I'm constantly having to log in as if I'm logging in and SETTING UP the device for the FIRST TIME, over and over. It's aggravating to have to continuously have to keep setting this things up and reuplaoding all the apps (it's about a 5-8 minute process before TV can start being watched). THEN I have to relog into Netflix and things like that as well. It's a pain in the neck. Not worth the aggravation. I also wrote to Tech Support. All they did was ask me a silly question, which I ANSWERED (via email), and then a week later, they said they were closing the case cause of no further feedback. Pathetic. Basically, they don't know why it's doing it and they don't have a fix. It's as simple as that. And no, my signal is NOT the problem, nor is my network.

Use the HDMI extension cable (Roku will ship you one free, this video explains how). The further away from your TV, the less likely the TV's RF properties may interfere with the device's signal.

The leaflet that comes in the box with start-up instructions is, like all these things, not much use. It does not even give a link to this instructional video on KZbin which is far more informative. What is does not tell you is what to do if you already have one of your HDMI slots allocated to another Internet based TV service (e.g. BT TV) and you connect your streaming stick to another HDMI slot. To install and subsequently to start up the Roku stick, you must switch off the connection to the other Internet TV service and switch on ONLY the TV set. Interestingly, what it does tell you is that there may be problems if the batteries in the remote control have no power, and that you should buy a new set of batteries. Two Duracell OEM batteries with no expiry date are supplied in the box. These are made in China and it would be reasonable to assume that they would be relatively new and in good order. Those in the box that I received (from the Roku shop on Amazon) were dead. (Duds or fake?) The mention in the video suggests that Roku is aware of this problem in their supply chain but cannot or will not do anything about it.

I bought the Roku stick a few years ago when I bought my tv. The salesperson recommended it. Never used it since I'm challenged with things like this. I had called for Roku help and spoke with someone from India and couldn't understand a thing. I had asked him what if I need to call again and he said that I would be charged for any help that I would need. NO THANKS! What a waste of money and time.

Watch it again - the adapter is included. The adapter going into the wall, gives a more stable connection, which is what you want Jill - watch at :29. It's pretty clear.
