Im going to order my soon. Its so awesome that someone maded that good dac/amp for such a cheap price. Im audiophile and I used dragonfly cobalt before which costed more and got way worse hardwarde compared to it.

I had to research your comment about Mac's needing nothing else besides plugging into the USB-C port. That is not totally correct, you also have to open up Audio Midi controls and then change the sampling rate. However, I am only able to select 384kHz, any above and the sound turns to static. I did get the orange lights, now on the hunt for MQA content to hear the difference in the last two colors!

Yes! THX Onyx is compatible with all streaming services including Spotify, and can improve them even if they're not yet streaming hi-res. With your DT770 Pro 80 Ohms, you'll immediately notice the higher voltage swing and higher SPL that THX Onyx can provide. Then over time you'll notice the lack of fatigue that comes from listening with THX Onyx and its AAA amplifier technology. The lack of crossover and intermodulation distortion directly contributes to a fatigue-free experience.

Yes! THX's 3.5mm output can drive the Bose Companion 3's 3.5mm input. To avoid clipping we recommend put Onyx's phone/computer volume very low, then put the Bose Companion 3 volume somewhere between medium-high, then use your phone/computer with Onyx as the system's volume control.

I would also look for something that was actually recorded, mastered, released and transfered in true high res to hear the full potential. You'll have to do some google searching to find what and where. But for instance, an old master of a vinyl of say Fleetwood Mac transferred in a 96kHz 48 bit carrier isn't going to provide any more res over the original recording so really you'll just be listening to the equivalent vinyl that should not be labeled hi res, it should be labeled a master transfer from vinyl and the best quality currently available. You need to find something that was high res from the beginning all the way to Tidal in order to actually hear hi res. Vinyl isn't hi res. CD is closer to hi res, but a direct hi res recording, mastering and transfer is the only true hi res. Everything else is only equivalent to what it was recorded on/with. No amount of over sampling is going to change that because you can't add information that isn't there to begin with. The biggest difference this DAC amp will make and what will cause people to hear an improvement is because the cheap phone DAC/amp won't be a limiting factor anymore. Most stuff on Tidal is just CD quality which fine. Most people can't even hear anything better than 44.1kHz 16 bit CD anyway. There are some small benefits to slight oversampling but that goes beyond the scope of this convo. At least this Onyx will allow it to be unadulterated and that more than enough reasons to buy one of these and a headphone with the Harman curve

When using Onyx with the LG V20, it takes the pure digital from the phone into Onyx and uses the Onyx DAC and amplifier. Therefore it bypasses the LG DAC.

Purchase this received it as of today what I'm really trying to configure here he's trying to get mqa quality off of my Android phone there are no instructions for that I do have tidal subscription the highest one with Master Tracks but yet the the Onyx still displays blue lights for standard quality the instructions that came with this does not tell how to achieve mqa for Android phones when I use it for Amazon music HD onyx displays only standard quality can you please post a link for Android phones

Tidal for Android will play Master files but doesn’t yet support full MQA rendering, so THX Onyx will not display magenta lights

Why is it when I connected to my iPhone using the lightning to camera USB adapter when I connected using the USB a to USB see adapter in a constantly has a disconnecting issue or when I’m plugging it in and it doesn’t even connect to the deck unless I wiggle the two connectors, and then it at work how can I fix this without getting a USB-C device?

Yes! Onyx has plenty of output voltage swing, up to 2 volts rms. DT 880 250 Ohm have sensitivity 106.6 dB/V SPL. So Onyx + DT880 combination can produce up to 112.6 dB SPL which is quite loud and satisfying.

Now make a reasonably priced THX dac/amp using all your newest technology and can do about 2w of output power to headphones. NO, I am not deaf, but I am a cripple. And because of that I am stuck in the living room when using my computer, which means my mother who takes care of me is watching TV. To drown out the TV, I need power. A typical computer motherboard audio isn't loud enough.... I literally need more. My FiiO K9 PRO ESS is about to be sent back to FiiO for repair because its failed on me. IF THX released a unit, I would probably buy it knowing its first party. Then if THX also supports Dolby Atmos and/or DTS surround, it would be killer.

I want to buy/recommend the Onyx but I'm disappointed in the color coding. From what I've read, 16-bit 44.1kHz MP3 and 24-bit 48kHz Lossless would both show blue lights! Is that truly the case? Lossy 16/44.1 should be 1 blue light, 16/44.1 should be 2 blue lights, and 24/44.1 should be 3 blue lights. Then 24/48 should be 1 yellow light, 24/88,96,176 should be 2 yellow lights, and 24/192 or greater should be 3 yellow lights at the very least. The Chord Mojo does a different color for every kHz stream. I would even pay extra to have better color coding like this because it's clearly the only missing feature on this Onyx.

Ok so this is a weird thing. When this amplifier first released I didn't know what the word "Onyx" meant and later I found out that apparently it's a black crystal. What if you happen to make these in different colors and name them after crystals that are known to be of that color?
