Thank you for this video! My company has never used Vault and we have copies of files everywhere! I was struggling to get Vault up and running! This fixed it!

This video was a huge help for me at work. We just switched from SW to Inventor and it's be a little learning curve to get back up and running smoothly (especially with understanding the Vault differences/setups). Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

+Ryan Murphy No probs glad it helped! Curious, why did you guys switch from SWX? That's a massive thing to do or can be if you've got a lot of history

Thanks for the great video. Can you make one video on working with content centre in Vault server and Creating a custom content centre with Global Vault server ?

Very easy to follow esp given the number of steps involved. I will be setting this up in the next couple of weeks on a small network. Vault Basic is going onto a W7 Pro PC dedicated as a Server I am an IT guy and do not use Autodesk products myself. Can you tell me if I need to manually set the paths for Templates and Design Data (at 11:47 in the vid ) ? Also - Do I need to do this on each users PC or just once on one PC ? Thanks again for the excellent video
@Neil3D10 жыл бұрын
Cheers. The templates and design data will install to each users PC, each user will by default reference a local copy. The folders can be relocated to a network share but it's not necessary unless you're totally comfortable with what to move and setting the share paths etc. The setting up of the Inventor IPJ needs done just once, that's checked into Vault, then all users get/download a copy of the IPJ. So most of it is just a one off setup.

Great video. Is there any big changes when Vault has to be on Network server?

I'm a little confused as to how you set up the Projects folder, because I think you have a different way you set up the Projects filters in the video you made 2 months ago. That video "How to install Vault Basic 2016, Autocad & INVENTOR Edition", you have the folder set up a little different. Could you please tell me why the difference?

hmm why does vault not work for windows home edition?
@grenoblica6 ай бұрын
This is STILL the only information that works for starting with vault. And nobody mentions that autoloader is completely broken, so you can only use a folder and project name called Designs
@NikolaBre9 жыл бұрын
Excellent video. Very helpful :) I was just wondering, don't you have to make another project in the Inventor if you're starting something completely new? You made a new folder named " project XYZ" but not a new project in inventor. That's kinda confusing. Thanks in advance

Brilliant Video! I'm setting this up for 3 users on a server based Vault. Using this method is it possible to have individual working folders? So instead of Engineering Data I would have Person 1, Person 2 & Person 3?. My aim is to have working folders for each user which then once the drawing has been completed would be moved into an assets folder. Apologies if this makes no sense. Cheers
@Neil3D9 жыл бұрын
Robert Oliver No it makes perfect sense, but it's not a good idea. The users would have their own working folders on their local computers so what would be the point in having their own area in Vault? It's entirely technically possible to do what you want to do but I would never set a Vault up that way, it's bad practice to have folders in a Vault named after individuals as if they left the company you could have a hard time renaming the folders... and if more people join you're left with a potentially very messy Vault with lots of random names in there. So yes you can, but no you shouldn't!

Bearing in mind I'm creating a new Vault due to the state of the previous one and the hardest part is all the ex employees folders filled with half done drawings I completely agree with you. Think I'll relook at my folder structure. Many thanks!
@Neil3D9 жыл бұрын
Robert Oliver Yaha I've had to rebuild many Vaults due to that reason too. There's no right way to set up a folder structure, some companies have folders per project, per product, per set of part numbers, there's a load of different ways. But the worst thing anyone can do is to start without a plan and see how it goes! Come up with a structure layout and get them to stick to it. What I also do now is apply restrictions so users can't create folders or check in files to places in the vault where I don't want them to... but i dont think this can be done in Vault Basic if that's what they have

Great video - thanks - Got one question - In the bottom left of your vault client you have Home, Project Explorer, Item Member etc. This is missing from my vault client so I cannot do all the steps - can you tell me why this might be ? Thanks again
@Neil3D9 жыл бұрын
Paul Arnell Hey Paul, thanks for watching :) Don't worry about those bits, that's the shortcut to go to the Item Master and Change Order List which are Vault Professional features... you don't get those with Vault Basic but that doesn't change anything or affect anything with regards to this video or setting up Vault Basic :)

CloudCAD Ltd Thanks for the prompt response. Got a basic test setup running as per your video. I am an IT guy but an AutoDesk noob - are there any websites providing question/answers that you can recommend for Autodesk similar to experts-exchange, stackexchange, spiceworks etc BTW I am a Geordie - live in Whitley Bay. The accent works well for presenting - think Robson Green. Thanks

Paul Arnell Ahhh I grew up in Whitley Bay! Still living around the area too :) So are you setting this all up for a company or are you doing this for home use?

TFI CAD Tips Just seen your reply - apologies for tardiness I was setting this up for one of my contract customers - Went OK but did need a tweak from the local Autodesk Vendor - think I made a mistake on the second PC I setup - but still saved my customer a fortune from getting the whole job done by the Vendor ! Thanks again

Paul Arnell Ahhh sweet, was the local vendor Symetri by any chance? I worked for them for a good 8 years! They're the only local vendor, next closest is out down in Durham I think! Glad it's sorted now tho!

Great Video - Thank you! I'm doing a new Vault install for the first time so your tutorial was very helpful. However I got stuck with mapping the folders in Inventor. Couldn't find any help on the boards. Tried loading and unloading the Vault add-in. Project file was not read-only. Any ideas?
