My wifi signal is quite weak and a friend has given me a tp-link modem Archer C50 (AC1200) they can't use and it looks very similar to your ASUS one. The problem I have is that the ISP provided modem has the phone cable connected to it. The red RJ45 cable goes from the modem to a port called Fibre that sits next to any empty RJ45 port called ADSL, if that is useful info? I'm guessing I need to buy a router that includes a phone socket connector? Most ISP's insist on the phone line as well so I'm surprised it seems to be missing on these routers, or am I missing something very obvious?

Can I use my old Sky Q router/modem instead of VF router, if not, can I use Sky Q router as Wireless access point to improve signal strength? Would appreciate your help! cheers!

No you wont be able to use your Sky Q Router as a router or modem due to the way they have been configured. But yes, theoretically you should be able use it as an access point yes.

Hi, I hope you can help as no one else seems to be able to. I have a Asus DSL-AC88U. As per asus I set it up using the quick internet set up. It all works except I can't seem to get my ipv6 to work. That is the only issue I have. If I re set it up using your exact settings will this fire up the ipv6? Thanks .
@TechStuffUK7 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your comment! It seems like a setup issue, as I said in the video i wouldn't recommend using the 'quick setup' option, often causes problems. I would recommend resetting the router and set it up using the instructions in the video. It shoudl then work. If not let me know!

wtf. I have Infinity but not the modem? My Xbox connection is screwed (moderate NAT) and all the old fixes I used no longer work.
@TechStuffUK8 жыл бұрын
+YouAreNotFree if you have BT router 5 or 6 you won't have a modern as it's built into the router. If so you will need to purchase a moderm to use your own router. Yeah for some reason Xbox really don't like routers - if possible I'd recommend connecting up via Ethernet to the router bit obviously that Kay not be possible. Hope that helps....please reply with any further questions/issues.
@YouAreNotFree18 жыл бұрын
+TechStuffUK thanks for the reply. It's connected via ethernet. Until last week I was always able to go and forwad the ports periodically but now, for some reason, that won't work. I'm going to try the new smart hub 6. Failing that, get a modem as I already have a 3rd part router to use with it.
@TechStuffUK8 жыл бұрын
thats odd. Forwarding ports is not something you should be having to do on a regular basis - your internet should 'just work'. i would recommend trying the new router and then resorting to 3rd party (which i reckon will do the best job) - maybe even change ISP because BT have not been performing well recently as it is!

How do I do this setup with the most recent BT smart hub (6) as it doesn’t have a modem. Do I just plug the ASUS router direct into the smart hub router??? Please help
@TechStuffUK5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Yes you can just turn the WiFi off from the BT router and connect the ASUS router via ethernet to the BT one and do it that way. Or you can buy your own ADSL router with modem built on. Meaning you would not need either the Openreach box or the BT router. Hope that helps.

@TechStuffUK6 жыл бұрын
If you have one of the newer BT Hubs you don't need a white Openreach box. You could just use that as the modem and then connect everything to an ASUS or Linksys router. If that doesn't improve your connection it will be something to do with your line. You'll have to give BT a call. Let us know how you get on!

no sky are bastards and use DHCP option 61 (MER) instead of PPPoE like every other provider in the UK. ASUS routers don't support MER. You have to hack the broadband username and password using wireshark out the sky router.

@robbob37173 жыл бұрын
@@dheaddy Quit being a twat, you didn't invent anything. You use the language that your forefathers did. However this word is purely based on region. Its varies depending on a few things. A router (computer thing, from verb "route"), or anything else which routes something, is "rooter" or "rowter" depending on how you pronounce "route" (US English has both "root" and "rowt", British English has only "root"). The router as we know it now, was also invented in America for reference. Making their choice of pronunciation technically the correct one. I'm also not American as you are clearly implying...
