Top vid, I get around the different leg length issue by doing the inseam measurement then the ball of the foot assessment in my riding shoes and set the height to work with the slightly shorter leg and as most people also have slightly different sized feet that slows for that as well. The Lemond method that you demonstrated is a good one for general height but the Hamlet method where you multiply the inseam by 1.09 will give you the measurement needed from the top of the pedal surface to the top of the seat, this allows for adjustment to suit different length cranksets. There is another one called the Holmes method that requires the knee joint to be at 25degrees at the bottom of the pedal stroke, you can get an angle meter app for the phone for this but it takes an extra person to help you and it’s a bit of stuffing around.

Interesting. I didn't know the names for these methods - they're just what I've bee doing for years

*New Subscriber* : That was *excellent* . Solid advice. Great shots, editing, sound, lighting. And you're a natural at presenting to camera. Keep up a regular rhythm of posting videos and this channel will grow fast. I've just bought a new Triban RC520 Gravel after many years away from riding. Waiting on frame protection tape to arrive and then I'll be putting your guidance in practice. Once the saddle is set up, the next task will be bedding in the disc brakes that I read I should do. All the best and greetings from Prague, Czech Republic !

Thank you for such a positive comment - this made my day. Congratulations on the new bike!! Find a nice hill you can roll down (with your brakes activated) to burn away the top layer of the brake pads. On the first ride, your brakes will be good, but on the second, they'll be great! Enjoy!

Yeah different variable because I'm 5'5 foot tall and I'm using a 155 mm crank length but using heel method for me is just ok, I found it quite good

Good point! Everyone has a different body, so we can use different techniques to find the best seat height for us.

Everybody has one leg shorter than the other. None of us, or very few, are perfectly symmetrical. Don't believe me? As a tailor.

For specifically the first method where you fully extend the leg with your heel on the pedal and also the last when you measure your inseam, are you supposed to wear your cycling shoes for both those measurements as well? Thanks for the video!

Good point...I was about to ask that question.
@recyclebicyclesales3 ай бұрын
Good question. I recommend using the shoes that you'll be cycling in. Otherwise, you'll have to make an assumption of how thick the sole of your shoe is. As a general rule of thumb, most sneakers soles are about as thick as what the road cleat would be - so those variables tend to cancel themselves out. Thanks for asking

5:40 I've got testicles. Should I place the flat, thin board between them or to the side. I've read of a book being used. I'm not trying to be funny, or awkward, but I think thse days we're grown-ups and should be able to talk about stuff like this.
@recyclebicyclesales3 ай бұрын
It’s a fair question. I measure to above them. When you sit on the saddle, you don’t sit “on” them, you sit “behind” them.
@3niknicholson3 ай бұрын
@@recyclebicyclesales Ta for that, obviously you're right, the "on" situation wouldn't really be on. I'll re-check my inseam measurement with that in mind. Thanks for a very useful vid.

For world-class performance at the highest level. it's recommended to have the testicles removed. . . . j/k

The inseam and multiplying by .883. But now I will try the heel method to see how close it gets to the inseam measurement. I have a problem now where after the ride I’ve noticed my seat sinks into the frame. This has been quite annoying, and I’ve tightened the bolt as best as can, cleaned the seat post, but it still sinks in. So, I’ll start out right, but when get home notice the seats sunken and it’s quite irritating.
@darren443123 ай бұрын
Make sure the seat post clamp is not backwards. The bolt side of the clamp needs to be on the side of the tube with the slit cut into it.
@recyclebicyclesales3 ай бұрын
You can try some carbon paste (rather than grease) inside the seatpost. This might help it be more abrasive.

mm's are nonsense......it's more in the area of inches....peoples sizes change from morning to night.

You're right. There are lots of variables in working out the right seat height. Thats why we recommended three different ways to check.

Heal Method one tip test both legs :D because every human has 2 different leg length^^ and set it to the shorter one ! or shim the cleat but this is the job for the bikefitter:D
@recyclebicyclesales3 ай бұрын
Great point! It's worth noting (as you mentioned) that most brands make 'shims' or 'spacers' to put under your cleat to make it a little taller. Super common if you've had surgery on one leg

Very very nice explanation for basic adjustment. Lota of people dont even do that so they ride so wrong and not comfy. Just dont forget for/aft position, it should balance the weight of the rider so most of it on back, on the butt and pedals and little of it on the front shoulders and hands.

Great points! Thank you for the positive comment.
