I have had a great year of production with my box turtles . Nice to see your approach, but all those wonderful products are not available here in rural Mexico . Looking forward to seeing your babies .

Wow, I guess I need to make some changes to my Baby Box turtle enclosure. I just find they never come out. They stayed under the soil. When do they get the benefits from the UVB?

Technically uvb is not needed the 1st 2 years. Their diet is the most important. Uvb should still be provided as they know when they need it. In the wild they spend the first 2-3 years buried under the forest leaf litter and soil and mostly eat a carnivores diet with the occasional plant sprout. It's Really rare to find wild babies. Most find them when they rake their leaves in the fall.

Personally for my baby box turtles, I do a semi aquatic set up for them. I do it that way because it'll allow them to have more humidity and be less prone to dehydration. I add sphagnum moss to aid in a more smooth shell development. Also, with those types of soil, baby box turtles are more prone to get acid burns on their plastrons and carapaces. And also I see that you have a Ohio address, just make sure you're legally allowed to have eastern box turtles. Just looking out for ya!!

Amy Patton Best advice I have is to make sure they are all healthy, if one is sick it can get them all sick
