Just want to clarify some things. Xbox/Gamepass version does not support dedicated servers or crossplay with Steam yet. This tutorial only works with the Steam version of Palworld as of now. When you port forward, you provide your friends with your public IP address. This can be located in your router dashboard or by searching “what’s my public IP?” on Google. Depending on your internet provider’s policy, your public IP may change. Consequently, you might need to update your friends with your new public IP every few days. Alternatively, you can set up a dynamic DNS server, a topic I plan to cover in an upcoming video. For those who either don’t want to deal with port forwarding or can’t due to ISP restrictions, you’ll need to use Hamachi or a similar program. These programs emulate the connection that would exist if the computers were linked over a Local Area Network (LAN). However, I wouldn’t recommend this approach since everyone involved will need to download the software, and the connection tends to be less stable. If you plan to open your server to the public, I recommend renting a server from a dedicated server host. You should never give your public IP address out to just anyone. You may want to change some of these values under PalGameWorldSettings: (Config tab in Haruhost) - BuildObjectDeteriorationDamageRate - Adjusts the rate at which built objects deteriorate. - bIsMultiplay - Enables or disables multiplayer mode. - ServerPlayerMaxNum - Sets the maximum number of players allowed on the server. - ServerName - Sets the name of the Palworld server. - ServerDescription - Provides a description for the Palworld server. - AdminPassword - Sets the password for server administration. - ServerPassword - Sets the password for joining the Palworld server. - RCONEnabled - Enables or disables Remote Console (RCON) for server administration. - Region - Sets the region for the Palworld server.

Ah, makes sense. Was trying to connect to my server from Xbox Gamepass and kept receiving an error.

@@lilg563 Hopefully they get that sorted soon! Their goal is for Steam/Gamepass to be crossplay.

IS the "Server Admin/RCON Password" the game invite code? I have the server running but not sure how to conenct to it...
@Xielent10 ай бұрын
No. If you are on the Xbox/Gamepass version, it doesn't support dedicated servers yet. (devs are working with microsoft to have the Steam and Gamepass version the same eventually). If you are on the Steam version, you will provide your friends with your public IP address. Check the pinned comment for more info.

So. If I follow this guide, I will not need to have my game running for the world to be accessed by my friends?
@Xielent9 ай бұрын
Yes on the steam version only as of now.

Okay so you connect with the public IP but what do you put after the ip? example 23.253.23.33:XXXXX. Palworld requires the XXXXX, and I'm not sure what to put there. I tried the game port and rcon port.
@Xielent9 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, youtube held your comment because it thought the ip address was spam.... You put the port 8211, the same port that you port forwarded in your router settings. Example: 169.169.169.169:8211

Ok so do you make the world first or the server makes the world? What's the world name? Lots of important details missing.

Don't try to overcomplicate it. What I showed in the video is the exact steps needed to setup a server. Creating the server in Haruhost also creates the world. You will need to go into the configuration tab and change a few settings I listed in the pinned comment.

How do I import my world to haruhost?
@Xielent10 ай бұрын
Go to the bottom right and click import, name your server and then it will have you browse for the folder you have your server files saved in.

@@DarkSRKI24 2:28 You provide your friends your public IP address. You can google "What's my public IP address" or find it in your router settings. This IP address can change periodically or if you restart your modem/router. So you may have provide your friends with your new IP every few days unless you setup a dynamic DNS service (which I may create a video on soon). You put the IP address in under the multiplayer tab in game. imgur.com/yVKo43T (I don't think you can join dedicated servers on the Xbox/Gamepass version yet).

Make sure you reboot your router after you port forward to apply the changes. Also make sure you don't have a VPN connected and check your public IP after rebooting to make sure that didn't change.

@CutieCallie I think it was on the same website that I found a different link for the download that didn't have the warning.. But I just opted to not use it anyway. I was trying it because I had an issue with my server booting. but it turns out, that the only problem, was that palworlds config file changed alot. so I just had to replace it with the updated one from steam dedicated server

haruhost.com/ is the official website and it's safe. Some antivirus will flag it as malware but its a false positive. You can see what all it does here: www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/18bsjbb/game_server_manager_for_windows/

Do not use port forwarding to do this on your home network. This is very unsafe and can allow easy access to your home network. There are bots constantly crawling the internet trying every IP you can think of with credentials and scripts looking for ways in. A much safer bet would be to get any tp-link router they all come with a VPN server built in. You can turn the feature on and allow your friends to connect to your network over the VPN. Then connect to the server. It is an extra step but a much safer bet.

Thanks for the feedback! I understand your concern about security. There are some risks with port forwarding, but you can minimize those risks very easily. And a VPN does not eliminate the inherent risks associated with port forwarding. By port forwarding, you are creating a direct pathway for incoming connections to the port on your device running the server. This exposes the server and anyone who knows the public IP address and forwarded port can attempt to connect to the server. A VPN will encrypt your internet traffic and hide your real public ip address, but it doesn't directly affect the forwarded port on your router. The server program is still exposed on the internal network. And A VPN subscription will cost you a subscription fee. As long as you implement a strong server password and keep the dedicated server up to date, the risk of an attack from port forwarding your Palworld server is going to be very minimal. A VPN can help but doesn't eliminate the risks of port forwarding. If you are worried about the risks of port forwarding, I would suggest renting a server from a reputable server hosting website instead anyways.
@austinszones9 ай бұрын
@@Xielent With port forwarding you are exposing that port to the internet as a whole making a hole in your network to be attacked. When you have a VPN server you don't do that. You broker an encrypted connection between you and your friend directly. No one else can access it. It is different from the type of VPN you turn on to hide your IP and encrypt your data from your ISP or in a public place. No offence but you don't fully understand what a VPN server is or port forwarding. The risk is not minimal. Especially because this video will reach kids that will now attempt this on their parents' home network. The reason you can access CCTV cameras in so many places including people's private homes is because they use port forwarding.

I suggest watching 1:30 - 2:24 again. Port forwarding depends on YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT. How I port forward my Netgear XR500 Router is not going to be the same process as your router.
