I'd even cut some short lengths of PVC and drill holes thru them or cut notches and toss them into a bag with rope, bungee cords and a couple of small tent stakes. I value knowledge, but if I am in a survival situation or just want to make life easier, I would prefer not to have to worry about knots and then untying them later.

I liked this so much I immediately went out to my shop and grabbed a four foot, 3/4" wood dowel, which I cut into twelve 2 1/2" lengths, then modified them with a round file in the middle about 3/16" deep and a 1/2" wide so the bungee could not slip out of the channel, then after looking at what was left I cut them down to use for holding an ear of corn, by placing a stainless screw into an end of the dowel which were cut to 1.5" so I barely had any waste left. Thanks for for the tip as well as an idea for eating steaming hot corn, without burning my fingers.

Hi John! Greetings from Brazil! My wife used to clip these grommets in several different type of cloths, considering she is a seamstress. Normally these kind of grommets are used in curtains too. So she lent me her clipping grommet machine and I have clipped more groments on my tarp - every 30 centimeters- around 12 " - is clipped one of them. In addition, with a pair of scissors I cut several pieces of rubber (from an air chamber) those ones assembled inside of the tires. Of course, I will not destroy my tire just to remove its air chamber lol ! You can buy one of them in any tire shop. It is not necessary to be a brand new...it could be a used one. I cut several rings of rubber - wide enough to pass through the grommet and make a loop. While camping, If the wind is strong,it will not damage your tarp 'cause it gets flexible and you have more points to put your camping sticks on the ground. If you are not using your tarp, it is not necessary to take them away...you just fold it and it's ready! Anyway, your suggestion is also cool! congrats!

This is a great starter method for kids. My boys are loving the shelter building we're starting so far, but integrating this will provide more immediate satisfaction. Even the rapid Ridgeline effect is creating an extra tutelage scenario and some resulting impatience. They just want to get under the thing to hang out and play. My expectation in using this method will be for it to become the 'Gateway Toggle' of camping/survival shelter building. 😄

@thereallycoolnameswereallt45874 жыл бұрын
Because it's a tip for people who didn't learn to tie any knots. Anyone who can tie two half hitches won't ever need this tip. And you use midshipman's hitches around your stakes to make it adjustable. The idea is to use fewer steps and make it less complicated. So, that's why I downvoted it. Not every innovation is genius. This one ins superfluous.

Subbed, neat trick. When van camping we use tarps to make a " porch " over the side doors & bungees on the ends of the ropes to anchor the corners so the wind ( which can get intense) dosent rip the grommets out. Tree wraps are a loop on the cords ends to " stick" like this so no nails in trees or knots to.mess with & quick easy disconnect. No damage to trees .
@MarkH107 жыл бұрын
Although this is simply common sense, it's clearly stated, and executed, within an excellent video. My question is not only about this video, but this one is a fine example of what I see far too often, and don't grasp. There are 2% thumbs down, but no negativite comments, so what possible negative thoughts do people have on this??? I see no reason at all to down this one?
5 жыл бұрын
MarkH10 I'm seeing the "thumbs down" on even the most awesome vids. probably ppl who don't have anything better 2 do!
@JasperJanssen4 жыл бұрын
KZbin has overloaded the thumbs down. It doesn’t just mean “I hate this fucking video, it’s awful”, it also means “this may be a perfectly fine video but I’m not interested in this or anything like it, please don’t show me any more.” So if the algorithm is recommending your video to... well, anybody at all, really, you’re gonna collect thumbs down.
@ScoutPL4 жыл бұрын
I like it and want to try it. The only negative I can see, and again, I have to try it, is that with no attachment through the inner grommets, will the tarp slip off due to wind, rain load, snow load, etc? I like the idea, and the adjustability part as well.

Real good one. Little extra to go with this. If its really windy, to prevent any bellows forming along the ridge line, get two rocks, about the size of pingpong balls, or a little smaller, and near the very end of each side of the ridgeline, push a rock up into the tarp and hold on to it, with the tarp covering it, with the other hand just take a couple fingers and twist a loop, with one twist in it, then feed the tarp covered rock threw the loop and pull each side tight. Now take both sides of the line, pull them together to create another loop, opposite of the last and push the rock threw again and pull each tight again.2 or 3 loops are all thats needed. This also works for securing material that doesn't have grommets.

Definitely a great time saving trick. I will most likely secure the corners with a loop or some simple knot the first time I try this. Just a few wraps of small cordage under the sticks (no knots or just a simple overhand) would likely help keep everything in place in high winds.
