The family set up is the reason why I get apple products for my kids- as well as the screen time benefits. Also T-Mobile allows you to set up a certain plan, and then you can add phone lines for 10$ a month. I have my two adults siblings on my T-Mobile plan, just an FYI. I’m watching this because I bought an Apple Watch for my daughter who is 13, for christmas. I wanted to do some research on the best functions and possibilities :)

However I don’t see parents giving such an expensive device to a child under 10. However it is a good idea that the Apple Watch is cheaper than the cheapest iPhone and the data!

My 9 year old has this. She loves it. We can track her location and text/call her. She can’t use KZbin or TikTok or a camera. There’s even a few little watch games for her. It’s awesome.

It can use KZbin. She can use Facebook, instagram, and more. It's just named differently. For instance, KZbin is named "watch tube" and instagram is named "lens"

Help! Which would you recommend: 1. Buy cellular watch & non-cellular iPad Mini or 2. Buy non-cellular watch and cellular iPad Mini for an 11 year old. Thinking #2 because the iPad can be the Wi-Fi/hot spot for the watch to ensure I can contact my child if needed. I don’t want to get her a phone simply because what she wants to do and what we need to have happen don’t require a phone per se. We believe option #2 gives us more capabilities because #1 won’t allow the watch to act as the hot spot when she needs to use the iPad away from home or public Wi-Fi. Does my logic check?

Before, I paired the watch via an iPhone that used wifi only. Today tmobile advised to delete the cellular plan from the watch. Now they can't add it back. All messages on apple watch state. Waiting for activation🤦🏾‍♀️

The iPad Pro has an 120hz refresh rate which helps drasticly for drawing snd note taking with the apple pencil, if i were you i would buy the iPad Pro :) The iPad Pro has exellent battery life, the iPad Air pobably will too and both will most likely to recommend.

you actually have to pay the $30 for a new number if you want your child to be able to use the cellular to call you while it is out and there is no wireless available. I found out the hard way, I bought this for my daughter because I didn't want to get her a phone and paid the $10 for wearable from tmobile, and I wanted to set up the family set up and it didn't allow me to set up the cellular. She can text and stuff while on the house with the wireless but since she doesn't have a phone line, the cellular set up is not available for the family set up. It seems that the only way to get cellular for the $10 is if the watch is set up for myself because I have my own telephone

I just bought the Apple Watch 6 series (cellular), and I’m going to be giving my 4 series (cellular) to my son. I have already set it up, but now, I’m wondering how to go about downloading complications (apps) directly from his watch. When I try to download from the App Store on the watch, I am prompted to enter his Apple ID, and password, which I do, but it just ignores my entry, and keeps asking over and over again. I’ve seen the option to share app purchases, but that isn’t working either. I know there’s no problem with the watch itself, because I’ve kept it in pristine condition.

One problem I encountered while setting up a child is when I put my child’s current apple ID (since he has an ipad already) on the email address part, it is saying that this ID has already been used or taken. So I basically is not able to set up my child as a child if I want to tie it on to his current apple ID. I set him up as an adult. Do you have any solution to this or aware of this problem? Thanks!

Hmm, didn't realize they could exit out of school mode. That might be a deal breaker since I know our school district doesn't allow kids to have devices at all times. IF they can exit and use it during test and what not, then that'll be a problem for sure. Hopefully this comes with a notification to the parent, which allows them to lock it back.

Apple says you’ll need an lte watch and it can be series 4, 5, 6, or se. one benefit of the SE is they are charging $50 more for lte instead of $100 more with the other models so it could even be worth it compared to buying discounted older ones.
