It's Joe² (Joe and Joe)! This is a great demo, and filled in a lot of gaps (questions) I was having after watching some other videos and doing some reading. Great video! Still pertinent more than 9 years later!!! -- DeWayne (KO4VNX)

Thanks for the video. It helped me get my simplex node set up using the Kenwood TM-V71A. I did have one small issue. If you have the Weather Alert (WX) set up on the Data side of the radio, it must check the weather bands every second, and it comes over the interface as TX burst of static. After I disabled the Weather Alert (WX) feature it worked great.

Is your node still functioning ok? Been pulling my hair out(what's left) for the last two days. Everything seems setup ok except there seems to be no contact between the software and the radio. Using the V71a and the two cables from the rig to the computer. I can't do an echo test like this guy did and cannot connect to another node over rf. What am I missing? Am I missing a key line or should the PG-5H cables take care of that? Thanks for any help.

Could you supply a link to the cables for echo link on the Tmd710g ?

Awesome, I want to set up a similar simplex node, at home too, with an older Yaesu mobile rig. But, can't decide on the echolink interface unit. (Signalink USB or a RigBlaster Nomic, or other model?) Any recommendations?

Rob - I am still using the same radio but I am now running a IRLP and ECHOLINK node. I always keep mine on 5 watts and a timeout of 3 minutes. I also have a way to remote into the node to reset it if it ever gets stuck. You may want to consider the same. Some of the ECHOLINK nodes have issues and they in turn can make an issue for you. Thanks for watching Joe, N3FHW

How do you remote into the node, if it is stuck on transmit?

I noticed that the TM-D710G can scan tones by holding down the tone select key. I haven’t experimented with this feature. Will it locate the required PL tone automatically for a given frequency to open a repeater?

thanks for video, it was pretty informative, even not just for echolink! I've been looking at trying to setup my TM-v71a as a repeater using echostation, and since the D710 and v71a share cable capability, i was wondering if you knew if the programming cable and the PC cable for the echolink functions were the same cable or if they were different? Thanks for the video!! I'm about to embark on this project with a D710GA and this helped a lot. How is the radio holding up basically being used as a continuous duty system? Some of the nodes I use here in Michigan will have the radio running like crazy as they are very busy nodes. Rob K8RJL.

I'm having issues with my setup. Looks like you haven't posted in quite awhile. Are you able to answer a question or two?

I don’t want to setup a node, I want to use it mobile and use the echolink memories. Echolink memories are useless if ur using the software for a node. Doesn’t make sense.

It makes sense to me. He is dialing out, of his own simplex node, into the world. And he luckily has his favorite stations, repeaters, links (what ever?) Already assigned and saved. All he needs is a cheat sheet or by memory.... and he can dial "17", and his Echolink dials out to Hampshire, England?! The exact same thing you might do if you were mobile. Just not having to key punch the direct node # to Hampshire, ie. "3 7 9 2 7 6" Which is kind of difficult while driving. I know!
