Why do you only use PPTP? It's the most insecure of all types of connections! Since this is a tutorial, I find it being a merit to help people set up a more complicated and more secure VPN.

Well, only you could help me with this.... I finally got it to work with your instructions. I am using Windows Server Standard 2008 R2 and the only extra thing I did was forward port 1723 (PPTP) to my server in the NETGEAR router.

@Essentia2 Thanks for your concern. I find it that many people don’t know how to setup vpn in general. This is a quick and easy way to setup vpn. I'm sure you can do a more secure and a more sophisticated setup.

@Essentia2 True, SSTP is not supported by XP and majority of the folks at my company use xp. L2TP is a mess setting up with firewall. Although do'able if you dont want certificate server, you can use preshare key and maybe get it to work, i couldnt. SSTP is great and works great on windows 7, but you do need a certificate server or a self signed certificate which means every user must export the certificate (this is where user errors come in). I'll make a video on sstp vpn soon.

Thanks this helped me set this up very quickly, Quick question: When i VPN is all my internet traffic to go through my Home network, if not is there a way to force it, not sure how to setup proxy server or if windows comes with one built-in? I need to access some website which i can only access when opening them from my home network

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and click on Routing and Remote Access. Right click on the server name in the left pane of the Routing and Remote Access console and click the Properties command. Click on the IP tab in the server Properties dialog box. Select the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) option and click Apply. The ISA Server firewall/VPN server will immediately broadcast requests for IP addresses after you click the Apply button. Click OK to close the Properties box

Question..I created a different DHCP scope on the same server for the VPN clients to use instead of them utilizing the addresses from my primary scope. How would i configure VPN policy to use the second scope instead of the primary.
@howithink11 жыл бұрын
Go back to the DHCP server computer. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and click DHCP. In the DHCP console, expand the server name and then expand the Scope node. Click on the Address Leases node. You’ll see the block of ten IP addresses obtained by the VPN server list in the right pane

This is great but there is one major mistake.....DO NOT enable the catch all rule in NPS.....you should instead create a rule with a lower number (processing order number) and then specify the connection types you want to allow......OTHERWISE THIS LEAVES YOUR RRAS server WIDE OPEN

Question. I am running a whole separate server to run RRAS my question is when connection how can my dhcp server reroute me to the RRAS server?

I have set this up exactly as the video. When the clienta connect there is a line in the connection that says Not NAP Capable. I can ping all from the client and see the company shares but when I try remote destop the client's network is cut and the RDP session hangs. No more network access is available until the client reboots. I have no idea why this is.

Hi. In DHCP Relay Agent, my router provides the IP Address for the Network. So do i still input IP address here. I am not running DHCP on the Server.

@yesterdaysguy Thanks for the clarification .

Can you please elaborate on how to get the dhcp server address? My guess was my local router address because it assigns IP to computers. In my case 10.0.0.1 Please correct me.

@Essentia213 жыл бұрын
@howithink Kind of hard for me to get it right, too >_< It's difficult to make it work right, which is why I urge you all the more to make a video for SSTP/L2TP with troubleshooting. I think THAT would indeed be appreciated. That way you get a safe VPN, and everyone is happy.
