Adjusting your sensitivity levels on the transmitter depends on who your talent is, you need to set this while the person is miked up, it's not set and forget. If they have a loud booming voice you'll need to adjust accordingly. If your lav is mounted closer to their mouth, same deal. You also need to pay attention to the level meter on the transmitter pack to make sure it's not too hot.

Interested that you use Mic and not Line input into your camera. I input into a Zoom F6 field recorder and find that Line gives me less noise than mic. Seems that it would be a Line level signal, coming out of the receiver, no? Another question, if I want to record into my F6, but the cameraman also wants to hear the lav feed, can I set up two receivers on the same frequency and have both of them receive what's being sent by the transmitter? Thanks so much for this; we are now getting great audio on our films! Do you know if we can plug the G4 mic transmitter straight into a Mac? We are also doing Zoom classes with a Logitech webcam. We wanted to get a better sound than we are getting from our Blue snowball mic so we tried using the G4 with a USB to 3.5mm Jack Audio Adapter, TRRS 4-pole Mic-Supported External USB Sound Card Stereo Aux Adapter - but it is not being recognised by the computer. ☹. Your expert advice would be much appreciated. Let us know if you need any help with yoga problems like lower back pain from carrying all that heavy equipment!

TRRS Stands for tip, ring, ring, sleeve and compared to a standard TRS Jack (which is what the Transmitter has) it has a additional ring for the Mic signal. If you compare a normal TRS plug with let’s say your phone headset (trrs) you’ll notice the difference. I would go for a dedicated audio interface to plug the transmitter into because all the sound quality benefits you got with that Microphone system can get lost with a cheap converter. I would go for an Audient iD4 MKii, best bang for the buck.

New Slate (sorry don't know your name) quick question - have my first interview shoot today & trying to make sure I have Senn lavs & zoomH4 all talking to each other (my camera is a Canon 5D MarkIV & I understand best to avoid audio in that camera (not great) so I'm going through the zoom instead. Any chance you have a tutorial on this or could help me out. I've been googling for a few hrs & no vid so far is a complete A to Z like this one is. Iget how to connect it, but still looking to get good audio levels (it's too low) & want to make sure I've done everything right. Happy to give you my cell but don't want to do it publicly. No worries if this is beyond your bandwidth.

I would ensure your levels on the beltpack's are set correctly, as in never peak, and have a strong signal, then plug in a set of good headphones into your Zoom and monitor/set your gain levels so they never clip and have a solid strong signal. At this point you will want to use the Zooms Line Out Jack and plug in the other end into your Canon's Mic In. Plug in your headphones into your Canon's Headphones jack and dial in the Input Gain again so it never peaks, yet has a good strong signal. This way you have clean signal across the board, starting from the mic/beltpack's down to the Zoom, then Canon. Your Zoom will record your individual channels high quality audio for post-production editing, and the camera will keep the summed up audio synced up with the video for refrence. When editing, you can sync your HQ Audio from the Zoom and the summed audio from the video, and replace the video audio with the Zoom audio. I have a very similar setup, and this is the best way to use this equipment. Good luck! Hopefully not too late.

If the shotgun mic had the right connection to the transmitter, I'm sure you could. I don't know if I've seen that before, but I'm still new and learning. I've only seen XLR connections with shotgun mics.

You can; you would need a phantom powered preamp to take in the XLR signal from the boom mic, that then can send signal out via a 3.5mm jack into the transmitter pack. I would make sure your beltpack's input gain is set to as low as possible initially and then play with the input gain to dial it in just right.

So I'm guessing the mic's are omni directional? and if the sensitivity is up meaning -27? ...which sounds like "down" , then does the omni directional pattern increases I'm guessing also introducing more ambient noise. I got my G4 almost a year ago and every time I scan new list I only get 2 banks with only 1, sometimes 2, free and all the other 18 banks have 0 free regardless of where I am, even when I’m in an open space with no frequencies around. I always get hits when I go more than about 10 feet away from the receiver. I got the G4 brand new, do you think it’s defective from factory?

@Jacob's Detail I ended up sending it to the manufacturer and they said that frequencies 566 - 608 MHz where not supported in the area where I live. So they changed to frequency to 470 - 516 MHz. It is now able to find lots of free banks. I hope this helps.

I don’t know about the g2 but the g3 and g4 I have sound identical. G4 just has more options for sensitivity and gain and a few other things I never use

I was testing w G3's and they kept dropping out even though my kids were about 20 feet away in the house. the frequency on them was at 530.800mhz and the other was at 537.700 and sensitivity at -9 on both sets....is the range taken up like you mentioned?

No, each transmitter needs a receiver. There are receivers that handle multiple transmitters but price goes up of course. Basically like I did was buy 2 kits of these in the same group of frequencies in my case A1. This way I can have an interviewer and a talking head both mic'd up or multiple talent in a feature. Check out the MKE2 Gold lav. You want to make sure you have packs in the same range of frequencies otherwise you will get interference. Would be nice to have a cost effective receiver with multiple transmitters though right? :)

Transmitter and Receiver are connected. Receiver is connected to an iPhone 13. Unfortunately, the signal from the receiver to the iPhone does not work. There seems to be some incompatibility between the receiver and the iPhone. When recording using the iPhone, the iPhone mic records the audio instead of the EV G4. I can see that the receiver is receiving the signal from the transmitter, but it is not passing through to the iPhone. Result is video with audio recorded through the iPhone mic. Has anyone ever run into this problem?

The mic sensitivity, AF out levels, mixer or recorder input levels and output levels.. This is all mystery science without clear answers as far as I can tell. I've struggled for years to find a better system than "whatever sounds best and I think it should be" and still there's no clear answer as to where is best to get gains from and I think it depends a lot on each setup. At least your video makes mention and explains your own settings and reasoning behind.
