The brakes don't need to be on Goods for a goods train. They can also be on Pass. It's all to do with the timing of how quickly brakes release etc. Some Class 66s only have goods timing in them, but newer ones can use the Pass with goods carriages.

Why do the routes with this loco not have cab lights on at night by default at the start? It is impossible to find the switches in the dark for the lighting. Also, a tutorial on a full startup from cold - as in engine off - would be very useful. I can't get the brakes to charge properly - only the outer dial moves, not the inner one - and the cylinder gauge doesn't move at all. Clearly I am missing something somewhere.

Having the cab light on by default in darker hours is certainly a good idea! I'd suggest getting out of the drivers seat and pressing left on the arrow pad 👍

Make sure to charge the brakes, also ensure Parking Brake is off
