ALOHA CHRISTINE - Have you ever been on PD? well I am and I guess its not work well for my body. So they want me to look into hemodialysis. for a person that hasn't been on it. It looks difficult. they say its better then PD how as it change your being, meaning your body your physical has it changed you in way its way better then u ever been? please let me know I would really love to here ur story - I really would appreciate. Thank u

@ I started with home PD and it was okay for a while but as time went on I had to have more volume and longer dwell. By the time I stopped PD I was on the machine 12 hours every day and had basically 24hour dwells. And had gained at least 30 pounds since that dialysate gives you extra calories. I did solo HD for a year, and while I was pleased that HD let me lose all the weight almost immediately I eventually became overwhelmed. If I had a care partner it might have easier for a longer time but I just felt like my life revolved around treatment, troubleshooting the machine and constant issues with ordering supplies. I switched to incenter a year ago and I love it compared to the other at home treatments. Of course I’m diligent with medicines and my diet/fluids but the nurses in center do every thing else. Now it’s “almost” like a carefree experience now. I tend to be pretty independent so that has surprised me

Very good. I've not read through all of the comments so apologizing in advance if this is a redundant question: I didn't see where the drain line connects to the NxStage machine? We are going to begin home dialysis and we'll only use the hanging bags as back-up. Our standard use will be done with the Pureflow system.

First: Thank YOU for putting this video together. Next: Consider switching to the Tablo hemodialysis machine. It’s a new disruptive tech machine that has been shown to greatly improve patient comfort and overall satisfaction. Looking through your video, I don’t think the vast majority of people are able to or are willing to do the home dialysis due the complexity of the set-up and the difficulty in using the machine you are now using.

How kind of you to make such a meticulous step by step video - I haven't begun any of this. Weighing my options so I will be informed when the time comes. Right now I'm at 27% function. I don't know if that means I have one year or five before I have to face this stage of the process. Hospitals don't bother me, surgery doesn't bother me, ambulance rides don't bother me - THIS? I'm scared S****LESS! I THINK I have too much anxiety to do it myself and I don't like the fact I will see my own blood and the waste products. I THINK right now I will opt for a Nocternal In-Patient Dialysis Center Solution Until I understand the entire process and get a grip on knowing more about what is going on. ONE PART I WANT TO SEE IS THE ACTUAL HOOKING UP TO THE BODY. Have An Idea of what that may look like but Havent seen an example yet. SELF INFLICTED AND STRESSED OUT RESEARCH PROJECT. GeeeeZZZzzeeeeeZE. AGAIN< THIS WAS SO KIND OF YOU - THANK YOU!

You gave me so much more insight on what to expect. I watched it again with my wife tonight. She said you did such a wonderful job and your so easy to listen to. Thank you so much for taking the time to help out newbies. Also is there a reason you didn’t go with a fistula for access? I’ve heard it’s a lot less risk of infection. Or is that not a normal thing on the other side of the pond lol. Thanks again Luke!

Did my own at-home session by myself for the first time last night. Very empowering. We call the small connector, the peanut. :) Do you always use the six bags or do you also use the PureFlow SL? I use ten bags so I prefer the PureFlow SL, it takes 6 hours to make a batch of 50g of dialysate. I tried PD, but it almost killed me. Great stuff.

Now that the pure flow filtration system is in place, do you still use all those bags? I assumed it was mainly when traveling with that machine. What about that warmer that sits on top? Does the pure flow filtration replace the warmer?

Thank you for this video! So helpful to understand what's going on, better than a lot of resources I can find online. I'm curious what the volume is of the 6 distillate bags you are using? I've heard lots of different numbers about approximately how much fluid (liters) is needed for one session of treatment. Thanks!
@lukegarnes36893 жыл бұрын
Hi Grace , thanks for your comment and I’m really glad the video was helpful for you. My fluid volume is 30 litres but I think it varies from patient to patient. My treatment time is 3- normally 3.5 hours. I can’t imagine it goes much less than 30 litres as I was still using that volume when I was doing 2.5 hour treatments. Thanks again 😊

One big note please make sure your gloves are stored in a clean area! Always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds before reaching in to get gloves. Gloves in a hospital setting are used for the nurses protection not to avoid infection unless they are sterile Gloves which will be clearly marked. It's easy to forget about bacteria on Gloves when you have the wrong mind set about Gloves intended purpose.

Hi, my question.... How long is your HHD training and what are the pre-requisites if any ?
@lukegarnes3689Ай бұрын
@@anthonyjones5591 Hi there, it’s been a long time since I trained but I believe it can be anywhere from 2 weeks till a month or potentially a little longer. I completed my training within a few weeks but I was a quick learner, it just depends on the individual. I also have a catheter which does make connecting to the machine easier, if you have a fistula and you need to learn how to button hole then training may take longer. In terms of pre- requisites, as long as you can show that you’re are mentally and physically capable of doing home dialysis or you have a partner or family member that can train to do it for you then I can’t see why you wouldn’t be eligible. Of course don’t take my word on that and I’m also referring to the UK, not sure how it works in other countries. Good luck!
