How to command Alexa to switch between 3.5mm audio output and Alexa inbuilt speakers? I won't be using home theater all the time.

The only issue I see with this, is you would have to leave the stereo on all the time which I don't think anyone wants to do. Too bad it doesn't have a skill where you could make the external jack on the DOT active or not active so that way you don't have to keep unplugging the RCA cable from the back of the DOT if you want it to work without the stereo on! Did I make any sense here? LOL

daddylogan - You just say 'turn speaker off', and it will go back to the Dot speaker. And if you buy a bluetooth smart adapter for the wall outlet and plug the stereo into it, you say 'turn stereo off'. I love MY Dot!

Just buy an Echo Snartplug and plug your receiver into it. The Dot stays on all times, just ask it to power on and off your receiver when you want “big sound” via the stereo plugged into that Smartplug.

How to set up the echo dot to move sound on himself when I turn off the audio receiver but I don't disconnect the 3.5mm cable? I want to use my echo connected to my old audio receiver, but with receiver turned off. So echo should play on his speaker and if I suddenly like a song I want to hit on button from my receiver (3.5mm cable was connected ahead) and sound should move now from echo device speaker to my audio receiver speaker. When song is over I will hit off the receiver button and the echo should move sound on himself speaker automatically. This is something I don't know how to set it up. If I turn receiver off while echo is 3.5mm connected I remain without sound. If I unplug the 3.5mm cable from my echo then echo will start his speaker.

see the shitty thing is that if i wanted to use the echo while i'm watching a movie or tv show i can't hear alexa unless i switch the input. it doesn't output the sound from the echo while i'm in a movie or tv show input on the receiver.

Easy fix, connect the echo dot to your fire stick through Bluetooth as a speaker then connect the echo dot to your receiver as shown in the video, that way you’re getting both outputted on the same channel and you can keep the advantages of both watching a movie and Alexa

BTW - I see the NASA MARS skill app - looks awesome can get live updates on the Mars rover from JPL NASA. Looks like a lot of potential with Echo Dot 2 Alexa! As time progresses they will acquire more AI, knowledge bases and skills apps - etc. See comment below too ....

Hey Tee-Bone -- Go to Amazon in search box type in Alexa Skills then on left pane scroll down to "educational" skills section (click on it) type in NASA MARS app will come up. Enable the app. You can do the same on the Alexa App. By Jet Propulsion Laboratory. BTW here is a description of the app: "Ever wonder what the rovers on Mars are doing? Here’s your chance to ask NASA Mars. Use the NASA Mars skill to learn about Mars and get the latest rover updates directly from NASA. Mission team members write the updates weekly. These short summaries let you keep tabs on what is happening at the Red Planet. You’ll find out if the rovers are driving, drilling, or snapping photos of interesting rock features. Example: “Alexa, ask NASA Mars what Curiosity is doing on Mars.” Find out answers to the most frequently asked questions NASA gets from the public. Example: Have you ever wondered why Mars is red? Just ask: “Alexa, ask NASA Mars: why is Mars red?” Teachers, use in your classroom to connect to discoveries on Mars!"Skill Details Invocation Name: nasa mars

In fact you don't really even need to do that if you have bluetooth on your Alexa which I'm sure you have have invest in a Bluetooth adaptor run the Bluetooth adaptor from the auxiliary or whatever input on the amplifier and then pair the Bluetooth adaptor with the Bluetooth on the Alexa done no need for cables or anything if you need to disconnect Alexa just say they disconnect Bluetooth job done can't see the point of having hardwired components when you have Alexa at home which is all wireless but excellent video nevertheless it is one way of doing it but I think it is the hardest way the way to think of Bluetooth in to another Bluetooth device i.e. stereo TV is simple you pair it the same way as you would an external portable speaker think of a hi-fi as a portable speaker that's it
