Fabric Button Loop.
The white strip is just a "PP strap". (06:00)
This is in order not to slide while sewing (sewing gap).
When the thickness of the fabric is different, the pressure of the presser foot and the feed dog are not stable.
Putting this tape means adding the height, this is very useful.
The pink tape is made of urethane foam with a sticky surface. (05:38)
It is very useful as a guideline for stitching. We buy them in a kind of professional shop in Japan. The information of this shop is secret.
This is called "loop turner". (01:05)
1 needle sewing machine : DDL-5550N JUKI
1 needle overlock sewing machine : MO-3604 JUKI
Paris collection, Tokyo collection etc... Sample garment factory Atelier Saison.
We have sewed at Shibuya-ku, Jingumae in Tokyo for more than 35 years.

I am just seeing this video in Aug 2022. Your work is neat and precise! You could add measurements in the video so inexperienced sewists can get a better grasp of what you are doing. Excellent work!

I am amazed that she could ‘turn’ something as narrow as that. My sewing machine would have ‘eaten’ the turned loop when she was sewing them together.

It's amazing how thin you got that loop. I have never been able to turn such a small loop. but now that I know it is possible, It seems I just have to practice more. Thank you for showing us how to do this.

This is also known as a "rouleau loop", one of the challenges that the contestants on Great British Sewing Bee 2020 had to overcome on a number of occasions. Some did theirs rather untidily, but it is a fiddly job and needs some experience to master well!

What tool were you using to turn the fabric loop since it was so tiny?? I'll have to watch it again to see exactly what you did to start making the fabric loop. Very nice looking when finished. Thank you!

Actually talking through, at least the more complicated parts, would be a lot more helpful. However, thank you for posting this because it at least visually shows what's involved. :)

What is the purpose of the white strip/band @6:43 ?

I was also wondering about this. From what I can tell, its there to relieve some of the downward pressure of the presser foot on the fabric. This would allow the feed dogs to more easily move the fabric along, especially at the start and end of these bulkier seams. It could even be a Teflon strip that would just glide along the presser foot and aid the movement of the fabric underneath in addition to the effect of relieving the pressure. I don't know if you've ever experienced how right at the edge of garments, openings like she's sewing, etc. the edge gets a little chewed up by the needle pushing the fabric into the needle plate, or the feed dogs can't get a good grip on the fabric so the needle stitches in roughly the same spot and you get a lot of stitches all bunched up right next to each other. I know I have, and it's maddening. This seems to prevent that quite handily. You can adjust the pressure of the presser foot manually on industrial machines, but to have to do so between every seam-or even during seams as in this application-would be frustrating. Let me know what you think of my explanation! It seems plausible to me but it would very well be for an entirely different reason lol
