42 years ago, as a newly married woman with too much fabric stored away, I pulled some out and sewed some bits together to make a whole cloth, then made 2 stockings from that fabric ... I had no idea I was quilting then, ha; I sewed garments then. ( Didn't learn to quilt until the pandemic!) I lined each stocking with fabric cut up from an old sheet, and splurged and spent money on fabric for cuffs, which was ivory velveteen. I've had them all this time, eventually using them for the dogs and cross stitching some new ones for us. Your tutorial spurred me to make some new ones for for the dogs ... they have to have a special treat, too! It's a great little fast project, thanks so much.

Had appointment so did not get to finish your tutorial and just did and can not wait to make some. My son called last night and wanted me to make them some stockings and I had no ideal how until I saw your T today so off to the sewing room to make some. Thank You very much. You and your family have a MERRY CHRISTMAS. See you soon.

You can add your linings into your stocking seam with enclosed seams. Layer 2 linings right sides together, then a batting, then outside fabrics right sides together then batting on top. Sew stocking edges and when you turn it the lining will enclose the seams. Batting does not need to be fussed to fabrics

Thank you so much for the clear instructions. I am going to make some stockings this year for my grandchildren. I had tried to come up with a design out of my imagination. You can probably guess how that turned out. I could hang it on the mantle piece, but the kids would be very disappointed, I had sewn the opening. So that wouldn't be a good start to Christmas day. I really wanted to see if I could find one that had clear instructions. I have thankfully found what I was looking for. So thank you again for your clear instructions. Hopefully I can copy your pattern.

Great tutorial Sherri! I loved that you mentioned “paper” and “fabric” scissors. This is a concept that is foreign in my house. I am going to make my husband watch that bit where you define which to use on which.

Awesome tutorial... I like your method for the Stockings and really could have any pattern of stocking patchwork... stripes, diamonds, squares, or even cross stitched front and the cuff can easily be embroidered with names.. the possibilities are endless I have been waiting for your tutorial and so glad that I did! I have made three of 5 already!!Thanks so much!

this is the best stocking tutorial I have found. But the template link doesn't work, is there a way to get it? The shape of this stocking is key to how cute it looks, thanks.

So you piece the squares, then fuse to the batting, quilt then cut?
