i never knew it was called a pagoda shoulder!! This is the thing with sewing there are so many design features were you think 'that! I want to make that!!...now wtf is it called so I can google how to do it!?!' THANK YOU!! also i can't believe how simple it is. I saw the Alexander McQueen exhibition at their london flagship store because i'm obsessed with those shoulders but they look so much more complicated than this (i've been following you on insta for a while now and was so happy to see you have a youtube too!)
@JVonStratton3 жыл бұрын
I never realized it was called that either! When I set out to make this video I did some research and found a little bit of the history in modern fashion. It is surprising how easy it ca be, the real trick is getting all the under structure. But I found that to be the case with most things. For instance, a corset is not super difficult, it’s the under structure that is complex. Same with suits and gowns.

I was looking for something like this. Michael Jackson wore a Balmain jacket with exaggerated shoulder pads that I loved. Thanks.

What fabric is best to use to make a blazer?
@JVonStratton3 жыл бұрын
That’s a very big question, because blazers can be made in all kinds of things. The fabric I use for this is a cotton spandex ponte knit. It’s a heavy weight and runs about 15 bucks a yard.

Hi there! I'm just starting out in sewing and was hoping to put together a garment inspired by White Diamond from Steven Universe. She wears quite dramatic pauldrons/pagoda shoulders and I was wondering if this technique could be applied to a more horizontal shoulder silhouette?
@JVonStratton3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend playing with different shapes in scrap fabric. If you have a dress form to fit a shoulder to that would help, but if not you should be able to try different shapes on your own arm. This is how I learned to make different shoulder and sleeve shapes . ☺️
