This is sooo so cute. I've been trying to find the perfect top half to make and even though I had the image of it in my mind, I could never think of what it was. And each time I googled "off the shoulder tops" it would never give me what I was looking for, which was that stretch of fabric that attaches to the actual shirt like yours does. I'm gonna be making a dress as soon as I can get my materials together, so thank you for this!

hey, love the video, how do you keep the fold over from riding up?

hi! the fabric tends to cling to itself, and doesn't move too much. if your fold over is riding up you could hand stitch a couple hidden stitches to keep it down. you would just have to be careful to not rip them while putting the shirt on/taking it off :)

To make sure that it fits around your shoulders I would measure around your shoulders (where the top of the shirt falls) and take maybe an inch or two away. It depends on how stretchy your fabric is. You need the fabric to be tight enough to stay but not too tight that you can see that your ribbed fabric is crazy stretch out. If you do not make the fold over portion tight enough, it will fall down. Does that make sense?

What alternative cloth could you suggest if a person doesnt like a fitted shirt? like what if they wanted a loose off shoulder shirt that wont fall off their shoulder because there is no garter to hold it in place 😆 im not sure i understand my own question but i hope u get my point 😊

Hi! You can make a top like that but you would need to add a zipper if the fabric doesn't have any stretch!

Hi! That's kind of the nature of these "fold over" tops. You could hand stitch a few spots on the arm to try to help keep it down. :) I just didn't raise my arms when wearing this shirt!

Hi! I have a really cute sweater like this, it's fuzzy. But I don't like wearing it because it never stays in place. Could you please tell me how to sew it so it doesn't move when I wear it

Hi!! You could add elastic at the top of the sweater, on the inside. That way it's tight on your body and doesn't fall down. If the top is like my top (and has a fold) I would put the elastic under that fold so that you can't see it from the outside. But, if you add elastic it might be hard for you to lift your arms, haha. But I think that is your best bet!

@@PLLisAwesome1 At 5:39 in this video, you can see where I attached the folded portion to the bodice. Lay your shirt completely flat (unfold that fold). It should look similar to my top at 5:39. I would put the elastic on the bodice, near the seam that joins with the fold. Kind of hard to explain via text! Your elastic should be slightly smaller than the measurement around your body. That way, the elastic will be tight on your body and hold the shirt up. This is similar to attaching elastic to a circle skirt waistband. Might be a little difficult if you are brand new to sewing!

Ah I know!! I haven't stopped for any reason other than just haven't gotten around to filming. Hi! I sewed one seam, attaching the fold over portion to the top, then folded it downward. The seam is hidden when it is folded down. Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I'll try and explain it more :)

Okay, so for the fold over portion you need to attach the long rectangle of fabric (seen at @3:39) to the body of the shirt. The long rectangle gets turned into a circle of fabric @3:39 when you join the side seams. I attach the tube to the top of the shirt at @5:16. Watch the video at that part over a couple times, and you can see where I pinned the tube to the shirt. Carefully pin the fold over portion to the front and back of the shirt. Where you see the pins is where I sewed them together. I'm not really sure of a better way of how to put it into words haha. When you attach the tube to the top of the shirt, you are just stitching a straight stitch all the way around. The side seams on the body of the shirt and the fold over portion have already been sewn at this point. Hopefully I didn't confuse you more!

im not understanding how you sew the fold over to the shirt. i was woth you all the way to the pinning. how can you put that in the machine to sew it together? its like the same concept as a yoga waitband, but for the yoga waistband, you pull the tube over the shirt so the raw edges line up (the same way you have it, but then folding it down to sew the seam) and sew it then flip it back up and then fold it over after everything is sewn together. is that what you did after pinning to actually sew it? sorry if this seems redundant, i just think perhaps there was a breakdown in communication when you did the video and perhaps either didnt explain it clearly or forgot to mention how to actually sew it through the machine after pinning. i dont know, ive tried reading the comments and atill couldnt get any clarification on how to actually do the sewing part after the pinning

It's hard to explain because when you pin the tube to the top it really is as simple as sewing a seam haha! Hard to put into words but I promise it will help. I wish you showed how to sew the last outer seam to the top fold over part. I am not understanding how you did it, cause you said how to do it not showed how to do it.
