Becca, im so glad that I'm not the only one who's blocks never square up to the size the pattern says! I get so discouraged when that happens so it makes me feel good knowing that it happens to you, too... sorry, I consider you a great quilter so seeing it happen to you makes me feel more normal.. lol!

It happens to all of us! Honestly, if it’s within 1/4” of the block - it will work out. Worse case scenario, you’ll trim them all down to the smallest size and maybe lose some points. But at the end of the day - it will still be functional!!

Glad to see you are so close to finishing this quilt. I have not even started making mine yet 😕 For me when I use the clearly slotted trimmer on the hst I have found that when I then open the triangle it seems to be a hair off. I think it is because when you open the square up the thread takes up some space where as if it was already open then that thread space is already established. Just my thought…..

That could be it. Try putting the line just a Hair below the stitching line and see if that works?

I agree, the folded triangle trimming method is definitely easier than squaring them when they are open. I remember Kimberbell showing this in a video about 9 years ago and it helped me a lot. Fewer cuts and no bulky middle seam for the ruler to 'rock' on. All things old are new again... 😉 Glad you're on the road to finishing this cute project, it's going look great!

I'm loving it and the tips and tricks you've discovered! Everyone has their own way and their own tool. I have the slotted rulers but have never given them a go and I do have a few smaller block rulers (this after I just received my Bloc Loc 🤣. Also, as I sidenote without being too personal, I'm wondering if you're some type if trainer or speaker in your professional life because you do present yourself in a clear and concise manner when doing your videos. Hi Nora - the Bright Side BOM was in Sew Sampler boxes that shipped between April 2021 - March 2022. If you want to go back and do all of these blocks, the videos are on my KZbin channel, but you have to buy the patterns from Fat Quarter Shop. Links for the patterns are all listed in the description box of each video for the Bright Side sew along. :)
