How cool is that, stretch fabric is so forgiving, easy to manipulate as long as you use the right stitch. I couldn’t even tell where you attached the thumb-hole cuff to your shirt.

It is definitely a fun fabric to sew!

Thank you for this video! I've literally just finished the hand part of my 4year-old son's dragon costume (only claws are missing), and I used your tutorial for sewing it. At first it seemed totally complicated, but when I started sewing the fabric was so easily foldable, and everything got cleared.

Thank you for the level of detail while explaining this. This is the best one I've found for these types of cuffs. I've seen other videos but none really suggested how to get the measurements for the desired size or how to do the markings. Explaining the different stitches is very helpful as well. This is the only one that showed what part was being sewn (so now it makes more sense to me). Seeing the part that you sewed was the top edge helped me visualize a lot better.I couldn't make heads or tails out of what each part was in other videos. Using fabric with a pattern on the right side also made it easier to see what was going on. I haven't used a sewing machine in 30+ years but I know we have an old one somewhere. I wonder if it has any of the fancier stitches. I remember in home ec class we had a separate machine for surging, but I've heard modern machines can have a surging function. I'll have to look for sewing machines that have the "lightning bolt" option. Again, thank you very much for this!

This makes it sew much easier, I did this to a fleece tunic/dress, copied from a favorite tunic and added the thumbholes. It took me a week to figure it out, good thing i had a little extra fabric👍🏼😀

Wow I am so impressed! I watched another tutorial and just couldn't wrap my head around the instructions, even though they were well done. Your tutorial is exactly what I needed! I can't thank you enough. Your instructions are very easy, you have a pleasant voice and demeanor. I hope you are having a great New Year!

Thanks for showing this. I want to start making my own tee shirts, and need the extra coverage to help with my poor fingers that turn white and get numb with a little cold. It's called Ray-nauds 'disease.' It'll be nice to not have to wear or cut the fingers out of those little knit gloves. Your tutorials are very clear. Thanks, again.

It's not complicated, just go slowly the first time.

Thanks for this Melly . I have tried to do the mental manipulation to work this out myself. And failed. Lol. Re the lightening bolt stitch - yes I love to use it because I worked out I don’t need to backstitch. Worked THAT out when I have tried to unpick that stitch. Ergh. Once it’s in.....it’s not coming out without a fight.

Yes, when in doubt I make sure to baste before lightning stitching!

I'm curious, for those who don't have the lightening bolt stitch would a narrow zig zag or a straight stretch stitch be a good alternative?
@Mellysews2 жыл бұрын
If you have both of those stitches, I'd prefer the straight stretch one. Basically you want the stitching to be as close to a straight line as possible while still stretching.
