Truly speaking it doesn't matter what kind of papers and paper you use ... If you are a beginner you can start with your note pad and any pen you use for writing. Then upgrade as once you become good in your skills. I use photocopy papers ( Xerox) and a cello Ball pen . If you feel it's too thin then try any paper over 100 GSM and bic pen are the best pen in the market of pen drawings. And if want to learn the techniques then watch my pen shading playlist.

The texture decides the smoothness and the hardness of the surface of any object . Let's take paper here , it has different uses for different style , like pencil shading, water colour, etc. The paper I'm using here has smooth texture...that's why I'm getting such a clean result .
