Fantastic knife ...it is the exact shape and size I've been looking for, there are many out there like that but they are way too small,,,so the search continues. Great information , I look forward to learning more from your experience, Thanks.

I love your contours. Kudos on making these scales yourself! I was going for this same type of contouring on my most recent knife as well...I like how it turned out, but I gotta admit that you nailed what I was trying to go for! This knife is looking killer 👌🏻💯🔪

This vid made me want to replace my 1x30 (it’s a crappy/cheap/used one I got for like $20) and try a set up like yours...1 with the big platen and the other with the slack belt. Been wanting to pull the trigger on a 2x72 forever now too. I have my eye on like 4 different sized belt grinders, LOL! I’ll have a whole table of just those pretty soon.

Very nice video and thank you for showing and saying everything about the 1x30. I was curious on your grinder that you lay on its back, do you have a portion of the stock platton on there or completely slack and no platton?
@theriversexperience9383
@theriversexperience9383 2 жыл бұрын
I have about 3/4" of the stock platen on there, just for tension.

Did you make a platen for the first HF belt sander and what is it made from?
@theriversexperience9383
@theriversexperience9383 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I made it to be a full length from top to bottom. It is just made from a 1" piece of mild steel that was bent to fit.

This is a Bauer Portable Band Saw from harbor freight. The table I'm using is from Swag Off-road. They are both well worth it.

Great work. Came across a negative review about the vulcanised paper . People said if it gets wet it can separate. Talked to a person at Jantz knife supply and they said the edges need to be sealed well with a waterproof epoxy or c a glue. Any opinion ? Thanks

This is a high carbon steel knife so you wouldn't be leaving it in water long enough for that to happen. As long as you maintain the type of up keep that a high carbon steel knife needs then you should be fine. You made a good point though and thanks for the info.

Which green 1x30 sander is that? Is there a 2x72 sander that won't break the bank?

It's just a harbor freight 1x30. I don't know that much about the budget 2x72's out there. I wish mine was more budget friendly.

I need to replace scales on my kitchen knives. Was thinking of using an Oscillating belt sander- tinyurl.com/yxwx3gvm My thoughts are that this sander seems more versatile vs HF 1x30 or even the Palmgren 2x48. I am a complete newbie at making scales. Will this work? Any advice as far as materials etc.
