Thank you - great video. You just saved me for a trip to the dealer for grinding. Now my mower runs like new through the long grass after the winter. And I didn't even have the grinding paste, so I had to use what I had. I grinded the edge of the blades with metal grinding paper until they shined (mower turned off), sprayed with WD40 over it all and adjusted the screws to find the right position for the transverse knife. Shortly after the mower worked very fine again - before it could not cut through the long grass and stopped. I will also buy some grinding paste to try the next time. Greetings from Denmark 🙂

What is the difference between the Atco Balmoral 14sk and the Qualcast Classic 35s, apart from the engine. How much would you expect to pay for a good Balmoral.

Hi William ! They are all basically the same, balmoral, Allett, Atco, Suffolk Punch, Qualcast, balmoral I have seen go for anything between £150-£400 second hand I would hope to grab one for under £250 😄

@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance I was looking at an excellent Atco Balmoral 14sk for 400£. However it would cost me another £150 for delivery. Can only find a Qualcast Classic 35s locally for £260 with the Tecumseh engine! The Atco has the Kawasaki. The Atco will stand me £560 if I buy it. Am I mad?
@JayRockGroundsMaintenance3 жыл бұрын
@@williamwalker3837 yeah it’s probably worth that much too in brilliant condition, it’s basically the Allett Kensington 💪🏽. The thing is in good condition it’s a good investment. Kensington is something like £1500, so your getting one 1/3 of the price just slightly older - not much will go wrong with a well kept mower, maybe just the pulleys that wear out and cost £10 or so to replace. If it has a scarifier cartridge I would say go for it ! If not maybe bring him down to £500 !😄

@JayRockGroundsMaintenance3 жыл бұрын
Exactly pal, if the blades are really blunt though I would suggest getting them sent in to be serviced and re grinded properly, although backlapping is great to just keep on top of it 😄🌱
@chrisgreenthumb69065 ай бұрын
I found that the idea of a cylinder mower was logical when I got one but in reality to get it serviced and the blade sharpened the cost involved was more yearly than what the mower was worth and just to get the cylinder blade sharpened professionally and have the blade balanced was hundreds of pounds that I wasn’t going to pay as I wasn’t cutting golf or bowling greens so it didn’t make sense. I tried this method and a few more to no success nothing really worked well enough so I ended up selling it and I went back to the old rotary petrol mower. So think twice before spending good money on buying a cylinder mower I had a qualcast classic it was over ten years old when I bought it was in good condition engine was Italian I payed 200 pounds for it and sold it after a year as it wasn’t affordable to maintain.

Hi there ! I haven’t done a proper review but I talk about it and use it in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJXJnYOHqdCsqLc For 25m/2 it’s probably perfect in all honest. It’s light, it stripes okay, it has a nice clean cut, I think it’s the best manual one that is being made in the uk right now 🙂 you just have to be careful with the height change, that it doesn’t slip while mowing 🙂🌱

@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance Amazing, thanks you 🙏🏼 that’s just the confirmation I needed, so will go ahead and get one. Can I ask though, which months of the year is it ok to cut the grass so low? @JayRockGroundsMaintenance3 жыл бұрын
@@amychrisbishop2096 well the max height what is 23.5 is already pretty low, so you may not need to go any lower than that🙌🏽. I think you could work the height down for start of April and cut it at the height all the way till November where you will raise the height again. Baring in mind you’ll need a good watering schedule through summer, water heavy a few times per week. If water costs too much where you are simply Just go back onto the rotary if needed

Hi why don’t you use engine to turn blades in situ ?
@JayRockGroundsMaintenance4 жыл бұрын
Hi grant ! Thank you for commenting, 2 main reasons; First is - it would be very dangerous having your hands anywhere close while stretching to activate the cylinder via the engine. Secondly, the engine propels the cylinder towards the bed knife in order to cut the grass, in order to back Lapp the cylinder needs to be turning away from the bed knife. Hope this answers your question :)
