How to sharpen your hobby knife blade. I know, they're cheap, you can just toss it. But! you can improve them right outta the box and maintain them for better cutting.

Great video, one criticism though, your audio is constantly panning from left to right and back again which is distracting for us headphone users, try setting your audio to mono and it will eliminate this problem.

I don't know why but never even considered that. Thank you!

@@SCM223 it's usually caused by sitting right behind the camera as you record and the built in mic struggles to work out which side the audio is coming from... ask me how I know this 😁

Gotcha. Yeah I'll shoot in mono or just overlay an audio track. I'm very new at this so thanks again.

Man I really underestimated how much of a learning curve goes into sharpening a blade. I'm about to give up but Ill try your techniques some more..

It can be steep! What are you having trouble with? I'll do what I can to help.

@@SCM223 Im left handed so i dont know if that matters. Mainly finding the right angle. It seems like when i switch to the other side I dull the edge out.

@@johnathan133 I'm actually left handed too! Yeah keeping the angle is probably the hardest part, especially on a small blade. So, find a piece of solid wire or a stick that's roughly 1.5mm or 1/16 of an inch in diameter. Doesn't have to be perfect but close. Maybe take a toothpick, cut the sharp end off and sand it to that diameter. You can use it as kind of a guide. Lay your blade flat on your sharpening surface and tilt it until the guide just fits under the top of the blade, closest to where the blade goes into the handle. Make sure the cutting edge stays flat on the sharpener. Then, doing your best to keep that angle, draw the blade along the sharpener. It's kind of tricky but eventually you'll develop a muscle memory. I hope that helps but if you have any more questions, just let me know.
