I loved how you offered the photos for us to download and practice on at same time watching this video. You made it easy to follow as you went along and if did not catch, just went backwards easily to area I missed and proceeded. I even wrote down the steps to practice further on. I thought it was an excellent presentation especially for someone who knew very little about the different processes you use. Great job!

Went through the lesson twice with one other presentation between. Impressed about the amount number of ways presented and the detail in each way presented.

Thanks for this tutorial! I practiced along with you on my own photos and it was easy to folllow your instructions. I learned how to use the sharpening tool and High pass, which will be very useful. You also show your screen close up so I could see even the small icons, texts and details. Good job!!

About the Camera RAW editing... You can do it in CS6 as well. You just have to get to it a bit differently. Instead of selecting 'Open,' select 'Open as...' You select your jpg or other file, and then choose 'Camera RAW' from the dropdown in the pop-up window. From there, it's identical to what you were doing.

6:44 Masking is basically the same as threshold back in Unsharp Mask, right?.. Like you want to increase threshold to avoid sharpen skies in the first image.
@GifCoDigital8 жыл бұрын
not quite. Masking literally masks out the sharpening in any area that is black (just like a layer mask) threshold is setting the minimum difference needed between two pixels for sharpening to be applied.

What is the function of the blur layer you placed under the high pass. You didn't say. I've never needed a blur layer in high pass (only in frequency separation when your actually separating the texture from the color).
@thechickenguy74475 жыл бұрын
your good at editing photos???
@kirtg14 жыл бұрын
thanks for the video. cc has also added "texture" which helps to sharpen as well. i do real estate photography and like sharp images. the images are usually viewed in their entirety in the mls, so rarely at 100%. also, often walls are one light color. the raw filter mask helped a great deal. thanks again

Can someone explaing to me in "high pass" method (11:09) why do we use blur filter at all? Why not use only one "high pass" layer? Thank you
@jeffkopito15377 жыл бұрын
You can use only the high pass filter - I prefer it myself especially when you use the linear light blending mode. You really have to start with the image and use what works - don't just add a technique because it's available.

The CC part was nice, don't have to have lightroom for that, knowing the camera raw menu. Unfortunately my CC 2015 doesn't read raw files even after trying to install the plugin. This video is full of little things that are off topic but really convenient. Like the quick keys for zoom in (no idea why scroll wouldn't work for zoom) and space bar to move the pic. The use of smart objects, hipass, blend, the use of brush with those filters etc. The lab color reminds me a lot of s-video signal with brightness and colors separated.

Hi Thank you for the videos. They are great.. can I ask you something. If I export photos with no size but at 100% quality with dpi of 300 ,are those in good quality to post on web,Instagram,Facebook or would I have to go down with the dpi to 72 And if you shoot portraits or wedding, what size would you convert it to ,for good quality to print and use them online with clients Thank you

Hey Kelvin what is the difference between using this method instead of sharpning in LR?
@rancorous8 жыл бұрын
camera raw sharpening is exactly the same as in LR. If you are editing a Fuji raw file, then I wouldn't suggest it though..

Thanks for the informative video, Kelvin :-) It's nice to have all the methods I already use combined in 1 video. I learnd along the way watching many many artists and their creative process. From you I learned something new using the "raw-tool"-method. The mask is a really good trick. As well as learning how to apply sharping only to the midtones (not blacks/whites). That was an eyeopener for me!! May I suggest a tweek to your "High Pass"-Method? You might want to try "soft light" instead of "linear light" - in my opinion, it's smoother. Furthermore I learned over the years, to watch the preview wile increasing the radius for the moment, the edges get somewhat white. Thats probably the max you can set to keep the picture natural looking. (Only to let you know: Further on it gets the look often used by hip hoppers or such for their special look and feel.) Keep up the good videos and tutorials. And once again: Thank you very much for sharing :-)

Great video. Some questions: 1. Is there any benefit in sharpening in PS instead of Lightroom? 2. Any difference (pros/cons) between sharpening a raw file vs a jpeg? 3. The "amount" in the different sharpening techniques, what's the difference. in the first technique you said 100%-160% is good. But in number two and three you used 30-35%. Thanks in advance.
