nice! the A-1 actually has a feature built in to do double exposures. its a tiny lever right under the film wind lever, you just click that in, then wind as you normally would. it cocks the shutter without actually advancing the film...

Interesting effect. I once saw a photo of a friend, where he was giving himself a "Hi-five" with his hand. I heard it was a double exposure. I attempted it with my Minolta X700, but instead of the trick with the rewind button you used, I went the hard route. I tightened the film slack and marked the winder spot of that exposure with a whiteout line. Took the photo, then pressed the rewind button and DID rewind to the marked spot, then snap the shot again. However, that was back in the 80's and don't remember how it came out. Now, my question about your procedure is, Would there Need to be an aperture setting difference on the Before shot and/or the after of correct exposure?? I ask, bcuz once you expose film to a particular light scene, (this question also applies to a day and night exposure by the way), wouldn't it require less or more of the exposure?? For the record, I have both, the X700 and AE-1.

Does this method work with a canon FTb? The manual says to wind the film back until the dot on the film release button rotates 7/8 of a turn then advance the film like normal. From what I can tell the two cameras appear identical from the outside but I don’t know if the internal mechanisms are the same.

AwesomeCameras AwesomeCameras First off I wanna thank you for introducing double exposure photography to me with this video. But it does NOT work exactly like this on my AE-1 Program. I have to press the rewind button twice as I wind the film. Or I have to hold the rewind button as I wind the film. That is because the rewind button falls down in the middle of the winding, causing a cog wheel to move and advancing the film a quarter of a frame. I don’t know if it is just my camera or AE-1 Program in general. But thanks, the images are amazing and I will take lots of d.ex in the future. Best Regards Janus

At 1:49 when you only want two exposures I've noticed that the film number counter doesn't move until after the photo that was taken after the double exposure. For example I'll take the first photo on film count #1, push the rewind button after taking slack up and "advance the film" take the double exposure shot, advance the film and the counter will still read count #1. Take another photo, advance the film and then I noticed the film rewind button disengages and the film counter moves to count #2. Escentialy having taken 3 shots to get to film count #2. Is this something wrong? I'm really hoping I'm not accidentally taking triple exposures. I'm shooting with a canon ae-1p
@AwesomeCameras8 жыл бұрын
I think the counter is moved by the actual movement of the film, so it will just tell you what frame youre on so you know how much film you have left. It's not going to tell you how many exposures youve taken

Hi, Great video:) I was wondering if you could help with my question, I need double expose a roll on two cameras for a project i'm doing. The method people use, is to shoot the roll in one camera and then, rewind it almost all the way, and put it in a second camera to shoot a second time. My question is how to line up the film exactly the same in the second camera, as to not have the frames only partially overlapping. If you have any advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it.
@AwesomeCameras8 жыл бұрын
AylaRose La'Akea so what i would do, is load the film in camera 1, then mark the film at the edge of the photo frame with a sharpie, then when you load it in camera 2, line that make up to the same edge of the frame. that should work pretty well...

Hello. I am using a canon A1. The A1 has a button under the winder to allow for multiple exposures, my question is if I’m shooting black and white fuji acros 100 in full auto mode, how would I set the iso to compensate? Would it be if film iso is 100 set camera to 200, then for second shot drop iso to 100 or is it reversed 100 then 200?
@AwesomeCameras6 жыл бұрын
+Peter Mare you would want to raise the iso the camera is exposing for to underexpose each image of the double exposure

Hey Joey, I've attempted this twice on my Pentax K1000, once just shooting the whole roll and then reloading, the other doing this method. when I tried this one though it seemed like my release button mustn't have been popping back out after the second exposure and as a result when I tried to recock the shutter it would move half a frame instead of a full frame. Because of this every double exposure was half overlapped with the next. Any ideas how to fix this or get around it? love your work man.
@AwesomeCameras7 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin Murphy hmmmm, sounds like the film may have just not been lined up at the start of the roll when you started... I would mark the film with a sharpie or some way to be sure you're starting the film at the same exact point the second time around

AwesomeCameras Yeah when I tried the shoot and reroll method I didn't line them up. But I tried this method in this video, recocking the shutter without advancing, and my frames were still overlapped.

I recently got an AE-1 just like this and tried to do some double exposures after watching this video. It worked for a few exposures, then I started having a strange issue I was not able to get rid of. After taking my first exposure, I'd press the rewind button on the bottom just like here, then hold the film rewind lever and try to "advance" to the next frame. The issue I was having was that the film advance lever would not completely go all the way back to allow for another shot because the rewind lever wanted to move under my thumb; releasing it allowed it to move about an 8th of an inch, throwing all the images off and ruining the double exposures. Any idea why this might have happened and how to prevent it?
@AwesomeCameras5 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure on this. Might be worth experimenting with the film door open. You'll lose a few frames of film, but it might be worth it to help figure out what issue is
@savagesanity5 жыл бұрын
