WOW. I'm a BJJ guy who is just learning wrestling basics. I've had a problem with wrestling shoots because it looked like it would destroy my knee. Now I realize you can get things done with technique and mastering the basics. I've also learned some wrestling takedowns that don't require me to shoot.

Bruce wrote about how he lacks groundwork many times. Sure he learnt some stuff, but he didnt master groundfighting.
@stephanwatson79023 ай бұрын
@@maximisatwat Bruce trained Judo for 5 years, he trained Judo, wrestling and some Jiu-Jitsu with Gene Labell, he also trained with Small Circle Jiu-jitsu. No one said he "mastered grappling" but even Gene (a champion grappler) said Bruce _was_ a good grappler. And I've never read a quote where he claimed he lacked grappling skills. His writings in the Tao of jkd show some of the grappling he did have (pg117 - 123), in there we see armbars, leglocks, heel hooks, neck cranks, the rear naked choke, bulldog and guillotine chokes, neck cranks, judo trips and throws, Gi chokes, double and single leg takedowns and even the Twister. He didn't master grappling, but to say, towards the end of his life, that he "lacked grappling" is grossly inaccurate

It makes a lot of sense why you would level change then shoot , they can’t get their hands under your shoulders to sprawl away if you’re lower when you enter for the single leg . I need to drill level changing before shooting. I love the straightening the arms tip too.

So good to hear the movement is shitty for everyone to begin with - I thought I just sucked more than usual! 🙂 I really appreciate how you both have broken down the learning process for beginners like myselfinto 3 parts - the fundamental movement + set ups and finishes. Even if I can't succeed with the complete move in my BJJ rolls for a while I now have hope of improving once I have developed some basic skills in those three key areas. My attempts in rolling to date have had such poor results I was beginning to think my standing game would have to depend on getting to rear body lock position and depending well.

Thank you, I was one of those who asked! Would also be great if you showed in subsequent videos just a setup or two for both the double or single. Obviously there's tons of setups, chains, counters to counters etc, but having just one or two setups to try to use in grappling would be great to get started trying to do it against pressure once one has drilled the shot a million times.
