I just bought my first sawmill, 2018 LT40 wide, diesel, debarker, lubemizer, accuset 2.........never sawed a board before. I have a lot to learn and I can't wait to start! I might be nuts.

You started with a real nice machine. Remember to listen, feel, and let the wood tell you what to do and you will be fine! Congrats on your new mill!

I searched for used but found them to be really expensive and had no warranty. So I bought a 2020 LT35 hydro. Have sawn a little before but sure is lots to learn. The new machine needed to be adjusted and dialed in but that's a good way to become familiar with it. And Holy Sh*t, Sawyering is one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done!

You get right to the point on what a guy needs to know before purchasing a sawmill. Very good job on presenting this information.

I think that woodmizer would hire you in a heartbeat. You are obviously a good mechanic and know the mill and it's functions well. I'll give you a call when I need a hand. Lol.

I really learned a lot about what I need to know about purchasing a sawmill. But what really struck me were the reasons you gave in doing this type of work. The inherent nature of man is to build things. Working with your hands. Sadly, we're losing this important aspect of life. Great video. Thank you!

About three weeks ago I bought a1988 lt40 hydraulic it had a four cylinder Diesel engine on it not original didn’t run. I knew it would need anew gas engine from Wood Mizer . When bring it home the driver side tire passed me the guy had put the tires and wheels on it when I got there I should have checked his work didn’t get the lugs tight .so I took off the drum and went and bought studs from auto parts and a wheel and tire from harbor freight got home 12:00 midnight. I have all hydraulics working toe board where Already up graded to roller style It has a debarked . Just picked up new engine from Wood Mizer maybe have this sawing in another week. This is fun work I am a wood turner and wood worker this will give me another way to process my logs I am a retired millwright from Chrysler I really like your videos look forwards for more

Good to know I'm not the only one out there putting a Wood-Mizer back to order, thanks!

One of the interesting things about Wood-Mizer is the line up of mills. While it can be confusing to those who are just getting into milling they have a mill that fits just about anyone's needs be it a new or used mill. I chose a used mill and have no regrets. I think anyone interested in a mill is going to learn about maintaining and repairing be it used or new. I feel that for those that do not have the money to spend on the extra cost of hydraulics or equipment the little Lt15 is appealing for several reasons. The 15 is low to the ground for loading...very simple and easy to maintain and the bed extensions are great. I have been tempted for yrs to sell my mill....similar to yours...and get a 15. lol can you tell I like my woodmizer?

I said to you some time ago the lt40 you had and sold it would be hard going to a lesser machine . Buying a old lt40 and renovating it has been a good move as it has cost you under twenty thousand and you own it . The other thing is you know the lt40 and you have learned so much from your first one. You are starting to get a old head on young shoulders . Well done Happy Sawing . And i do agree with you the last bit you said Enjoying the process and the moment and having fun it is very enjoyable using a bandsawmill. Cheers Rob.

I’ve got a 1992 LT40HD. It’s cut a tremendous amount of lumber over the years. It’s been refurbished once and is now ready for its 2nd restoration. It’s a great machine. I don’t have any complaints. My advice is not to spend the extra money on the Diesel engine unless you are a full time sawyer. The gas engines are a lot cheaper to fix/replace. The only way that diesel will pay for itself is in fuel savings. And you’ll have to cut a huge amount of lumber before that difference in fuel costs equals the extra cost of the Diesel engine.

I know that you would have given the previous owner grace on all the things that needed repairing. On the brighter side you know that you have a great and reliable machine. Keep up with the great content. God bless to you and your family.

You may also want to consider whether you have the skills to either restore of fix the problems with the sawmill.
@southernindianasawmill13674 жыл бұрын
YES! Definitely, very good point. Most people with a little common sense and a wrench can fix most things on a Wood-Mizer. The electronics are simple, but better safe than sorry if you don't know what you're doing.

Mr Michael Beck I would like to know your opinion on the 2 types of sawmills that exist, the band (most common) and the disc saw, what advantages and disadvantages does each one of them have according to your experience?
@southernindianasawmill13674 жыл бұрын
I have never operated a circular mill like Lucas, but I think the main differences are speed of cutting, blade cost, and ease of set up for portable jobs. Wood-Mizers can slab big widths, the circular mills cannot. The bandsaw mill has less waste. I'm sure many people out there may be willing to comment on your query. I know the people who have circular mills love them!

I'm looking at getting a sawmill, and it will be a new one. I'm good mechanically, and I'm quite capable of fixing a lot of things, but I always remembered the first lesson from aircraft assembly: the worst jobs are the ones somebody else started, you don't know how they f***ed it up. Some people shouldn't be allowed to touch tools and your sawmill's previous owner might be one of them.

‘92 LT30 owner. Restoring a used mill is a labor of love. My gal cuts true but the power feed developed some bad herky jerks this weekend cutting some big poplar logs. Ended up manually pushing the head to get the cuts done. 🥵

Watch out for bad brushes in your motor. I had another LT 40 that ended up having a motor that went out because of the same issue.

I’m looking at a lot 40 hd 1992 With 4000 plus hours the owner is dead I don’t know the history or repair of mill I talked to owner before he passed it’s diesel and he started it but wouldn’t sale two month later he passed I know a few things are Jerry rigged what would be a good price
@southernindianasawmill13673 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. The diesels are worth more, but that is still a lot of hours on an old machine, especially with old parts that will be more difficult to replace. I would aim low $8k high $12k depending on condition.

I paid $14k for my 1999 kubota diesel lt40hd. I had to put $4k to get it back to factory running condition. $15k seems steep. The problem is, there is a higher demand for used mills than there was even a year ago. That is an old mill though and bound to have expensive problems being a diesel model. Food for thought.

This is my take way from this video If you grousing about the things you had to do and the cost of those fixes and upgrades my statement to you. Shame on you for buying the mill with all those problems. Some of those you should have seen before you bought the mill. If on the other hand to realized what you were buying and the price you purchased it reflected the possible cost of repair and replacing items , they good for you and I hope you made out ok All in all buying very used machinery is always a crape shoot.
