Does anybody know why it's called a stinkbug start? 🤔
@wildhogget69 Жыл бұрын
Called the "Stinkbug" because it resembles the posture of a stinkbug
@windaddict Жыл бұрын
I don't really see it. Maybe I need to imagine a stinkbug holding a wing 😄

@@windaddict my best guess is that their backside looks a bit like a wing - so you when you look at them you see arms and legs under a wing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_marmorated_stink_bug#/media/File:Pentatomidae_-_Halyomorpha_halys-001.JPG

This is a very correct observation about tutorials, plenty of those are in flat water.

Thank you for the timely video. The one you presented is really the best technique I found to get up with my 80L board (with wetsuit I am 90Kg). It definitely takes a while to learn because you have to be in the board sweet spot when lifting the wing. But once perfected, allowed you to get up in a matter of seconds. Thank you!

I’m just learning and I’m never in flat water Usually 2-3 ft swell with chop What you describe is what started doing intuitively It works

Good to know it works for you too!

I do that in chop unintentionally sometimes, kind of hold the wing with my head, even on a large 95l board. Now this will help me to do it intentionally, thanks :)

Haha, nice!

I usually just get on the board from the side and kneel on it with the wing still on the water. Then I stabilise myself by pushing onto the wing with my hands (kind of kneeling on all fours) and waiting for a wave to pass. Then I'll quickly raise the wing and power it to get stability before the next wave comes in. Definitely going to try this technique next time though.

That's how I used to do it before! With the bigger board it worked fine, but with the smaller not so much anymore
@mikemikeson7768 Жыл бұрын
@@windaddict That makes sense. I'm still on a pretty big board (95L). So I guess this problem is going to come back to me in a while when I get a smaller board. :-)

me 82kg and tried 80 liter board today, Kanaha. Very windy with chop. I just could not get up! But I will try this tomorrow

I think if your board is small enough, do the stink bug or rodeo start. On a bigger board, the sideways stink bug works fine.

I weigh 88kg and my board is 95L. That is "small" for me. Of course with sinker boards it's a completely different story, but I'm still far away from that.

will come in Rosas beginning of May. Is it windy ?Do I get a chance to meet you or should I go south to Barcelona ?
@windaddict Жыл бұрын
The Golf de Roses is a great spot for wingfoiling. May should be a good month for wind. Even if there is no wind forecast you often get thermal on-shore winds (easterly). I don't think I will be there beginning of May as I have a vacation planned more towards end of May in La Palme (France). I wouldn't recommend you to go to Barcelona for wingfoiling as a vacation. Wind here is not nearly as reliable as it is at Costa Brava / Roses.

Hi, I really like your videos. They are “grounded” ;-) Where is your spot on the costa brava? Cheers from Germany

Vielen Dank!

I came up with exactly the same method some time ago and I use it when I feel the chop is too big and the board is too small.

Hahaha yes watched all those Stinkbug and Rodeo starts but like you we have so much chop. So I adapted the best of both. I pull myself up on the board into the best kneeling position I can with the wing downwind side of the board giving me support, then with forearm across the nose pull the wing quickly across then stand straight up. Took practice but now I can even get up in switch. 86kg dry, Fanatic 5'1" 85ltr. But I need to be powered up for this. 😆
@windaddict Жыл бұрын
Wow that's great! If I pull myself up from the back of the board kneeling with chop coming from the side (even holding the wing) it feels very unstable. So I prefer getting up from the side. Maybe I would just need to practice, but this method is working for me now so the incentive is low to switch. :-)

@@windaddict yes i think all those lovely videos of flat water starting look great. 🤣 But in reality on this coast it's always choppy and gusty 😁
